I don’t know what it is about the Melbourne newsroom but everyone presenting just sound so childish and sensationalist.

Blake Johnson and Mike Amor to name a few were great reporters/presenters and since moving to Melbourne they just sound so stupid and communicate like everyone is dumb. Even Peter Mitchell sounds worse off than he did 10 years ago…

Would love to hear everyone else’s thoughts on this

Don’t know if it’s entirely a network-wide thing, but I personally think that several Seven News Sydney reporters and even certain presenters (you can probably guess exactly which ones I’m referring to) seem to have rather sensationalist storytelling styles which really bring down the overall quality of the content/standards of journalism.

A lot worse. Rising cadences, almost yelling at the camera etc. Compare it with his style in the early 2000s when it was calm and measured. Terrible.

Similar to Andrew Lofthouse (and also Bruce Paige)on QTQ9. He sounded much better at the ABC prior to 2009. Now he just shouts tabloid stories to the camera. I have to switch radio stations when I hear him shouting out the tabloid stories on the afternoon promos. Unlistenable now! Max Futcher on BTQ7 not much better. I’m over the shouting - just read the story - that’s all you have to do. Brian Henderson or Brian Naylor never shouted!

Blake Johnson and Mike Amor don’t sound much different to me. I don’t mind Peter Mitchell, but there’s no doubt his style has changed, for the worse i’d say. Like others, I believe that his presenting style in the early-mid 2000s was much better as he is a little bit shouty now. However, I remember people on the old forum criticising him for being very wooden and boring. Reporter Cassie Zervos is one I find hard to listen to, she is very shouty.

I preferred it when Peter Mitchell presented like this (by the way, I still love that opener):

I really like Mike but he isn’t a great reader, from what I’ve seen of him presenting the national bulletins. He seems to have strange emphasises and inappropriate pauses mid-sentences. I shouldn’t comment on the other newsreaders as I haven’t seen much of them but all of the weather presenters in Melbourne are awful presenters- they read just like Jane!

So that is how they got to number 1- shouting.

In my view, everyone is different. Every presenter and journo are different and that’s great. Similar note, all viewers are also different. They are all people going about doing their daily jobs. I don’t have any issue with any of them. The crux is the contents. That’s just my opinion.

I understand, respect and agree with that but my point was that some of these presenters presenting styles have changed and its for the worse.

Also, welcome to MS

Probably because Carols In The Domain is on.

Although I must ask the question again: Whatever happened to Michael Usher solely focusing on presenting Sydney 6pm bulletins while The Latest was on its Summer break?

It wouldn’t be because of the continuing bushfire crisis would it?
