He’s still there?! Would be well into his 70s now!
@JohnsonTV @Qwerty no Maher retired in 2017
With all these fill-in forecasters on Seven News Sydney recently (Sally Bowrey is a surprise, because I don’t think we see her on air too often these days), I wonder how long it’ll be until Sarina Andaloro is given a go at filling in? Because I think she’d probably do a really good job at presenting the weather!
I was actually wondering if his absence and Graham Creed’s from the weather on ABC News NSW might’ve been related in any way (because if I’m not mistaken, Creed went on his most recent break at/around the same time that Brown did), but of course it couldn’t have been because Graham returned to the air on Tuesday night.
If the ratings shoot up again next week (or whenever David Brown returns), I think we can be reasonably certain that having a meteorologist presenting the weather is a lure for Sydney TV news viewers.
As for Emily Angwin’s move to Beijing and CGTV - wow that’s a major loss to Seven News Melbourne because I think she was one of their best presenters - certainly after Maddern & Keyte defected anyway!
Sad to see Emily go but it is hardly surprising, though. She has had reduced presenting stints in the last year or so, and, as you’ll recall, was reportedly involved in the newsroom divisions in Melbourne (her fiery email to the EP was leaked a few months ago). It’s a shame they won’t realise that they’ve probably lost their strongest female presenter at HSV.
Good to see Sally filling in for Angie at 6pm.
Yeah but it seems like she has always wanted to work overseas so I doubt this move wouldn’t have happened even if there was a ‘harmonious’ newsroom.
Speaking of said newsroom divisions though - this appeared in a Herald Sun article about Angwin’s move today:
Some say Angwin, who has been working at Seven News Melbourne since 2011, was irked at not being promoted to news anchor in a prime time spot. A Channel 7 insider said Angwin felt she had earned her stripes after filling in for Seven News Melbourne anchor Jacqui Felgate while Felgate was on maternity leave. Playing fill-in weather girl to Jane Bunn didn’t sit too well either.
…
Someone close to the action says Angwin has been unfairly maligned by some of the senior female executives. They added it was good she was off to spread her wings and that she would always be welcomed back to the Seven fold.
Others say executives said Angwin was not a team player, referencing an inter-office IVO issued by HR.
I don’t doubt that Angwin wanted to leave. I daresay both parties were waiting anxiously for her contract to end.
I think that is a fair assessment. As I’ve said, I think she is the strongest female presenter at HSV. Yet, she has missed out on a number of key positions. Obviously, Emily wasn’t going to replace Bunn, but she was eligible for weekend weather or more summer stints of newsreading.
It’s evident that Jacqueline Felgate was unhappy with being demoted from the 4pm News, when Mike Amor joined. So, they moved her to the weekend sports role. Yet, when Emily expressed her concern with not having advancement opportunities, she was sanctioned. That is why the terminology of “unfair” and “only favourites are rewarded” gets leaked to the paper.
And the papers seem to love reporting when it’s females as they can push the bitchy crap.
