Didn’t sound like Seven (could?) claim much else in their yearly release either
Such bad lighting then, and such a weird photo anyway.
Explaining the Social Media Ban: your family’s guide
Six must-see special reports, six nights, only on 7NEWS
The biggest change to family life in a generation is about to hit Australian households: the social media ban.
For years, parents have battled to protect their children from the mental health toll, cyberbullying, online safety risks, social pressures and the educational impact of endless scrolling. Now, with the Federal Government stepping in, the question is: will it work? And what happens next?
In a must-watch special investigative series, 7NEWS will connect viewers to the true impact of the change, nightly from Sunday at 6.00pm on Seven and 7plus. 7NEWS Presents: Explaining the Social Media Ban delivers six in-depth investigations over six nights, unpacking what the world-first social media ban means for every child, parent and grandparent.
Across the breadth of Australia’s #1 news network – on broadcast, digital and social platforms – 7NEWS, Sunrise, The Morning Show ,7NEWS.com.au, The West Australian and The Nightly will lead the way with comprehensive coverage and information for families on what the new rules mean and practical steps to get devices and accounts ready.
7NEWS ’ most experienced specialist reporters across technology, politics and health including 7NEWS Spotlight host Michael Usher, 7NEWS Chief Reporter Chris Reason, Political Editor Mark Riley, National Health Editor Jennifer Bechwati, Tech Editor Shaun White and Senior Reporter Paul Kadak join forces to answer every question and cover every angle.
They will speak to the families who fought for reform and the opponents who question if this campaign has gone too far, along with health experts, politicians, and tech giants as the ban takes effect. Plus, Usher moderates a panel discussion with a group of teens to discuss the real-life effects of the social media ban and their fears about how it will impact them.
Michael Usher said: “We’re talking about rewiring the daily lives of millions of kids and their parents. that’s why we’re dedicating an entire week to explaining what it means and how to prepare.
“As part of this investigation, I sat face-to-face with 15 teenagers who will be directly impacted by the ban. They were strong in their views and shared concerns about losing contact with friends, along with some surprising thoughts on how life could change for better and worse. They even offered me advice as a parent, and for all of us about how to navigate the next few weeks.”
Whether you support the ban or fear its impact, 7NEWS Presents: Explaining the Social Media Ban is essential viewing for every Australian family.

Nightly at 6.00pm from this Sunday, on Seven and 7plus
I can safely say that people do not want to watch six of the same stories over six nights.
Seven News has a couple of specials coming up on Thursday 11 December
7NEWS: 2025 Year In Review - 7NEWS takes a look back at the stories that shaped 2025, the year’s biggest headlines, key events, and unforgettable moments. (1 hour)
And for Sydney
7NEWS Special: Roger Climpson - A 7NEWS special honoring Roger Climpson, reflecting on his iconic broadcasting career, unforgettable stories, and his lasting impact. (30 min)
There are still 20 days remaining by then. I think it’s a bit of a gamble to say absolutely no major news will happen in that timeframe.
I’m glad these end of year specials are back in vogue. For several years they were absent and/or replaced by a series of segments in the 6pm news across the week.
Seven’s BBL schedule means that basically apart from Christmas night and Saturday nights, the network won’t be able to show the end of year review in the final two weeks of 2025.
Well, I could do with it being on December 27 to have all bases covered. Or is it a bit DOA as the least-watched night of TV?
Melbourne Afternoon News on location today, broadcasting from the soon to be opened Metro Tunnel with Karina Carvalho.
Is today the last Victoria Afternoon News bulletin before a National afternoon bulletin from New South Wales is aired across most states until Early-mid January?
Tonight 7News Melbourne will show Mike Amor’s one-on-one interview with Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan at her hometown of Bendigo, just under one year from the 2026 state election.
Next Sunday it will be Mike’s interview with opposition leader Jess Wilson.
We also erroneously ran a photo of Mr Vincent Ashe. Mr Ashe is a highly respected businessman and professional hunting guide and has absolutely no connection to or with the criminal proceedings.
Slight title change: The Seven: 2025 In Review
So Top Seven of 2025 reviews?
From the title, seems like it’ll be a 2025 version of this from last year.
