Did they axed local arvo news?
Here come the cost cuts. It was rumoured that local 4PM news was going.
Calm down. Brisbane is still local. Probably just an issue in Sydney.
Adelaide still getting itâs local 4pm news.
Is Brisbane still getting itâs local bulletin?
Mentioned directly above your comment.
That Melbourne set lookin fine AF.
Was that âAround the world in 90 Secondsâ segment new?
Overall Review of the Combined Sydney/Melbourne 4PM News:
- The âNoon Newsâ opener just doesnât sit right - Shouldâve just used the regular graphics
- The early weather preview has no life - No temps shown at all. Just plain text
- Sport preview using standing presentation is useless.. because Bec ended up presenting sport from the desk
- The full weather forecast had âMelbourne Weatherâ at the start & had ZERO mention of Sydney/NSW weather.
- Use of the â7NEWS Appâ promo at the end. Sydney ditched that ages ago
Karinaâs presenting feels off-putting. Just doesnât feel normal.
Keeping an eye on Sydney 6PM
Worth mentioning - No 6pm previews or updates during the bulletin.
Is it seen outside of Victoria? Looks nice!
If theyâre looking to cut costs⌠a combined Syd/Melb 4pm seems like a weird method to do it.
At risk of playing devilâs advocate⌠why not have Syd/Brisbane combined and Melb/Tas/SA combined? More market similarities
It was probably just some reason in Sydney- like once before when they all had a funeral to go to. If this was a change why would they launch it on a Tuesday?
I recall in 2014 Mark Ferguson attended the funeral of Ian Ross on the Gold Coast, leaving Melissa Doyle to present the Sydney 6pm bulletin in the studio that evening.
Thatâs not even remotely the same thing⌠presenters take days off and someone fills in, it happens.
But I mean there was a day when one of the eater he state cities had much of the newsroom attending a funeral and as a result 4pm was a combined bulletin that day. I canât recall anymore than that. Obviously something has necessitated a combined bulletin today, but I think this jumping at shadows and assumptions is a bit of an overreaction.
I remember Seven did this with Today Tonight twice.
Seven could be testing the waters.
Having a more national 4pm news for the most part wonât save Seven that much as the vast majority of staff are already working preparing for the 6pm news. But if they want to take it national it will probably come out of either Melbourne or Sydney and be shown across the east coast ie Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. But due to time differences at least in summer Adelaide and Brisbane should have their own as should Perth.
Adelaide is:
- Not on the east coast, and
- Is 30 minutes behind Sydney and Melbourne all year
Takes me back to Susannah Carrs World Around Us (although a little different in style). Did the East Coast have this too back in the day?
