This speculation is cruel and unnecessary. You’ll find out soon enough.

TVT reporting National 4pm news

That could save some serious cash removing anchors, crew from local 4pms etc

crew would be the same for 6pm though

Also means presenters for the afternoon news have less of a workload now, either redundancy or they are deployed to reporting ? Would be a backward step and a free kick to Nine.

Seems pretty clear that even if the redundancies are mainly off camera, there will be on-screen changes and implications that viewers will notice and possibly react negatively to.

Such a shame when bulletins in most markets especially at 6pm and some at 4pm were making a significant ratings comeback after the recent ratings slump and becoming very competitive again.

Also, if the national 4pm bulletin eventuates that seems to be totally at odds with the “connecting” with the community campaign that has up to now been a success. It’s hard to connect to a national talent.

Will be plenty on camera if 300 people are being made redundant, that’s a fair chunk of their current workforce. The interesting question is how much of 7 regional will be cut .

wonder if some old guards like Ann Sanders, Mike Smithson and Rick Ardon could be ushered towards retirement.

Susannah Carr is 5 years older then Rick

Susannah is a great news presenter at 74

Could she just do Weekend

Tim & Ange do Monday - Friday

I really don’t see how it would save money, apart from maybe presenters but then again, some of them either work other days reporting, or do the 4pm news then a live report at 6pm (at least in Adelaide) - the crew is already there for afternoon updates, the reporters are out in the field.

Quick question - how realistic would it be if they got rid of hair and make up and have the presenters do their own hair and make up?

Who would be the face of a national 4pm bulletin?

Hugh Whitfield?
Alex Cullen?
Ann Sanders?

OMG! You’d be able to hear the howls of outrage across the nation. In many regional newsrooms the presenters (especially male) were expected to do their own grooming.

I know of one presenter in Melbourne who has hair and make-up done in the mornings at home so that they can look fab first when they go out, and then when they get to work and have more done.

Besides, the presenters will miss out on all the goss. The makeup room is where it all happens!

I think there will be backlash in Perth if its 4pm news is replaced by a national bulletin, meaning the reports will be on a minimum two hour delay.

There might be a backlash but will viewers watch anyway?

Chris Maher gone too.

So how many do we actually know who have been given there marching orders

CM article also mentions

Reporters Brianna Jackson and Amy Clements are also understood to have received phone calls, along with senior sports producer Nick Markham.

I’m tipping the Midday News or Afternoon News will move to Melbourne with Alex Cullen. Maybe both.

Today might have been the last we see of the local afternoon editions.

I don’t think staff levels in each newsroom could sustain local productions. Im expecting a national edition from Monday.
