I agree, he’s much better suited as a field reporter and correspondent.
He’s not the best news anchor, he sounds very sensationalised and unnecessarily puts emphasis on words that don’t require it.
Mitch is by far the best presenter in Melbourne, and I hope that Mike won’t be his successor, but there’s really no other suitable options other than Mike unfortunately.
Why does this remind me of Perth’s afternoon titlecard?
I do wish he would do more on-field reporting. He’s one of the only skilled journalists left in that team
Funnily enough, I will note that he sounds much more professional when presenting the national bulletins compared to the local ones. So I sometimes suspect that the shouts aren’t usually part of his presenting.
Yes he’s good at reading an autocue but Mitch has zero versatility and cannot ad-lib. The “banter” between him and Jane is cringeworthy. He’s comfortable with Tim and Sandy Roberts before him. If networks want to build their audiences I believe the 6pm news needs a revamp that will require more versatility from the anchors. Amor has the versatility, as does the likes of Michael Usher.
Don’t know where to post this, but just saw a clip during a news update on 9 (during Hotseat), with a reporter holding both a 7News and an ABC News microphone while following someone outside court. Does this normally happen (a reporter ‘being there’ for two networks)?
Sometimes if they don’t have a reporter, could also be a Covid thing lessening people crowding. But yeah helping each other is very common in the field.
