There’s phychological reasons why. Too much red overpowers the viewer, so its only used for breaking news to highlight the importance. Blue is more calming keeping the viewer more engaged and less likely to leave/switch.
Blue is also often seen as a sign of stability and reliability. Businesses that want to project an image of security often utilise blue in their advertising and marketing efforts.
BBC News and CNN seems to manage.
Aside from the reasons mentioned above…because Nine News also has a very blue brand, of course.
It’s great. Would be awesome if all markets got a local news at 11.30am
But even more important would be live local news windows in Sunrise
It seems they have zero interest in doing that however
They did that between June 2007 and June 2008, before it was scrapped due to the launch of the Early News bulletin.
How many viewers would the 7 Adelaide local morning news get ?
15,000?
The 4pm news gets around 23.000 in Adelaide- and that’s when viewing figures are much higher
If a bulletin with 15,000 can sustain itself - that puts local TV news in Australia in a whole new light
We could be having local 7am or 10pm news too with those kinds of viewing levels
NBN could do local news at 4. So could 7 Tasmania.
Still amazes me they don’t do late local news where there are way more viewers
Agree. With the two smallest of the five big markets now doing live local news at the lowly watched hour of 11.30am, both to audiences in the 10,000 - 20,000 viewer range at best… it throws light on just how cheap it must be to put 30 incremental minutes of local news to air.
It makes you realize that it would be possible to monetize local news at 6am, 7am or 10.30pm also.
And if WIN, NBN and 7 QLD were not doing pre records, they could easily have justify 4pm live local news.
Especially now that Seven have turned over a good profit, I think it’s time to axe The Latest (since Seven stuffed it up so badly), and just do a local 30 minute bulletin for each market at around 10pm/10:30pm from Sundays to Thursdays.
Do we actually have the ratings for the morning news in Adelaide and Perth.
See ratings topic for today
In Adelaide Seven Morning News ranked 78th in total people and just below 250th in 25-54.
I think this is what you call a loss leader! Clearly being used to promote Seven’s credentials for the rest of the day.
Those numbers are not very helpful if we don’t know what the timeslot averages for 7 or what the competition was doing.
Being up or down of your lead un doesnt tell us much
It’s not a normal week with the tennis on Nine, so will have to wait until next week to tell. It rated lower than the average audience for the tennis but can’t tell in the specific timeslot. It rated above Studio 10 Extra and at about the same level as the national versions of the Seven’s Morning News the previous week - lower than some days, higher than others.

Think we need to wait a few weeks to get a clear picture of Seven’s local morning bulletin in Adelaide. It takes time for the audience to build for a local bulletin but hopefully it will come with time.
We all saw the ratings for Nine News at Five in Adelaide in the early stages and dismissed the move but now they’re thriving, maybe something similar will happen here.
Again, this isn’t about building ratings at 11.30am. It’s to promote and fix the news brand in Adelaide. It’s a local promotional bush by the network to assist and help rebuild the local 7 news brand from the damage that was created last year.
From Sevens perspective, the addition for the local morning bulletin will hopefully hold off a resurgence from Nine and maintain a healthy lead at 6pm.
I think channel 9 did a Queensland morning edition maybe channel 9 should bring that back to compete against 7.
