Seven News Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

I recall the sports shot with all three presenters (the sports presenter was standing up for the throwback) had a really bad camera shot that was too wide and too flat with no strong angle to balance the shot.

Can someone get Adelaide a new desk. My god.

Yep they still have an angle for it, although not sure if it’s the exact one you’re talking about.

Fairly sure they are waiting for a hand me down to be trucked in from Melbourne once they move buildings.

Brisbane’s bulletin ran the full 30 minutes to finish 8:37pm. Horoscopes were not shown.

This is what I was mentioning, the presenters look too far apart

It doesn’t matter what they do, it all looks shit regardless.

Previous attempts at the set have looked more tolerable

Everything now looks amateur

(Heck, this shot looks better for a sports throw, albeit Bruce looks quite small)

This is pretty much how it looks these days

And in studio reports:

And somehow the lighting has degraded so much over the past few months.

Michael Usher would be a good choice for Brisbane News Director. His many years in news and current affairs makes him perfectly qualified. Surely he would be best used in a leadership role behind the scenes rather than reading weekend news.

Are they even looking at each other? That screen looks to be in a horrible place! Should be facing more towards the camera/ahead, not so flat against the left side of the set, just not a good camera shot at all.

And again with the framing, while it is tighter, everything feels too far apart, it’s pretty well executed when the sports presenter is seated (the ‘SPORT’ on the screen somewhat throws it off however)

It’s like they do too much, but don’t execute it well at all. And then fumble and take multiple steps back and are stuck with a small desk (i.e. 2021) or awkward camera angles

He isn’t just used on weekend news - he get’s to be the face of the network’s major events coverage (federal elections, etc), plus get’s to do investigative reporting, and fill in every now and then on Sunrise.

Plenty of other people can do that. As I said, you need smart minds like Usher behind the scenes running the show.

Could even just stand for the first few reports, then return seated at the desk when the segment finishes.

But Usher may enjoy doing it, and given they’ve built him up as one of the major faces of the news brand, I doubt they would move him behind the scenes, especially since it sounds like they are trying to get someone local to be news director, since they would understand the local market.

Remember, part of the issues with 7Brisbane at the moment is due to Sydney based management making decisions about the local bulletin.

While we are talking about set’s, which one is your favourite:

  • Brisbane
  • Sydney
  • Melbourne
  • Adelaide
  • Perth
  • Gold Coast
  • Regional QLD
  • Regional NSW

OMG that awful reception desk they had. That was shocking

The funny thing is, on its debut, it looked great (standing) on the Afternoon News but its 6 PM appearance, everything about was such a downgrade from the original.
