Similar to what Adelaide does on Fridays?

Yep same concept as Adelaide’s Ray of Sunshine - good feel news story after the weather on weeknights.

Seven sacked Sharyn Ghidella to save costs, have hired Mark Humphires to do a weekly satirical segment, and introduced horoscopes (written by a morning TV contributor, and done to the background of “70s porn music” to the bulletin because management probably said in a meeting “Why the fuck not at this point”.

Apparently poor Bertie has been sacked too

Yep - last bulletin was on Saturday

You should watch his final live cross. It was brutal…

I saw him roll his eyes when I watched one of his bulletins he thought the camera was off (wasnt the last one it was a couple of weeks ago) he didnt look impressed during the closer

I think the Olympics loss has hit them harder then they expected so they are trying to reinvent themselves but failing at every turn by getting rid of presenters people have been watching for years, running shit comedy segments and stupid horoscope crap and by trying to drum up drama with really dailymail like clickbait headlines.

Seven Brisbane is really going downhill quite fast at no fault of the anchors either.
I hope they are able to find their stride again, as personally I’ve been watching Seven for years.

Yeah something isnt adding up, unless he’s watching 3 day old news.

And regarding 7 being hit hard by the loss of the olympics… They dropped out of the race from memory, it was only 9 left in the end.

The Olympics are still likely to be loss making for 9… and given it appears their 2 big shows ‘after the olympics’ are The Block and Tipping Point, one wonders what advantage they will get from it? Those two shows rate or will rate with or without the olympics.

Correct. The Olympics will be a loss leader for 9. Their only hope is to plug the hell out of second half content and hope the audience sticks around so they can recoup some of their cash.

9’s end game was to lock in the Brisbane games.

7’s accountants are very happy they missed out. They simply do not have the cash to cover the IOC fees or cost of coverage.

Which would be a very Seven response. Nine is dominating the nation’s attention and zeitgeist in a way Seven weren’t able to achieve for Rio or Tokyo.

Seven are counting their pennies for this quarter’s results while almost every household in the country which didn’t have 9now downloaded now does, while 9 News’ brand strength is being pushed as Seven is fooling around with horoscopes and unfunny skits and Stan Spot has reached the cut through it hasn’t achieved with its sports rights to date.

Even if they don’t make a cent on Paris, there’s now a strong perception around Nine as a tech, sport and news leader which brings in advertisers and lets them access cash on the cheap. Nine looks like the company with a business model for the next 50 years while Seven looks weaker and more vulnerable each month.

Well they have to. They’re debt is still extraordinary and their profits slim. Don’t forget they paid a massive for AFL rights which last alot longer than the 30-odd days of Olympic and Paralympic competition.

And 7 saw the same thing with 7plus with the last Olympics. But we’ll never know how many people delete the app post-Olympics.

Are they though? From my perspective there seems to be alot of apathy about the Olympics this year. That’s not a 9 problem per se, there just seems to be less interest generally this time around.

Absolutely. 7 is massively diminishing their credibility with their recent changes, hirings and firings. I can only imagine if they had won the IOC bid, they’d have to make deeper cuts after the games to compensate.

Can’t say I agree. They’re tech is not all that different to 9 or 10, and 7 pioneered it in terms of Olympic coverage. Sport - a matter of opinion as it depends on the sports you follow. Olympic coverage isn’t really an indicator as its an event. As for news, they’ve led the East Coast for years. The Olympics don’t change that.

50 years might be a stretch, but yes, 9 is in a far stronger position than 7. With TV, radio, print and SVOD, they have diversified their assets enough to not be so vulnerable. 7 opted to invest in tech startups and plunge money into odd business ventures which failed to take off, while taking their eye off viable acquisitions or mergers. But having to fund the Olympics would only have made things worse for them as a business. They simply can’t afford the prestige and ability to enter the zeitgeist off the back of these Games.
