I thought that 7 News Special Presentation logo was interesting at the end of tonight’s telecast, haven’t seen anything like that before I don’t think.
Here is yesterday’s Queensland bulletin for those interested.
This afternoon’s Melbourne bulletin with Mike Amor and Sydney’s bulletin with Chris Reason for those interested.
Best time of year for the live shots, Seven looking equally spectacular tonight -
Imagine how good it would look like if the blue maps/vertical plasmas were replaced with big screens that wrapped the backdrop right around the desk.
I agree!
I personally suspect the current Seven News Sydney/national set and the overall branding might’ve looked much better if they waited for Nine News to roll out their current look sets (Which you’d have to imagine might’ve been planned for as far back as 2015 let alone 2016?) rather than rushing into their most recent slow and stilted rebrand. I still don’t think the updated “ABC World News Tonight Rip-Off” Headline Graphics introduced earlier this year look that great while the accompanying transitions aren’t broadcast quality IMO.
Another element I really think Seven News Sydney needs to change is the hideous sports backdrop. At least the unfocused ANZ Stadium pic (or the SCG one we had last Summer, which I’d imagine may be an Olympic Park Tennis Centre one this Summer with the change in sports rights) from Nine looks tasteful & is relevant to Sydney!
Loving that the set is keying onto the viewfinder of the camera on the left… smooth.
It’s a joke. The glass on the desk always gets keyed out because of the green reflection, you can see right through to behind the set instead of an inverted reflection. BBC never has this issue in their virtual set.
That’s mostly because the mid-90’s BBC “virtual set” was mostly thanks to masking and a coordinated digital transposition to allow for a wide shot of a very specific segment of the physical set to fill in and blend in with the virtual one.
ITV News’s virtual sets from at least 2010 and on have been able to work with desk-based reflections.
Tim Hatfield on assignment for a special investigation
Something I was meaning to mention last night but forgot, Sydney had the AFL Premiership trophy as a special guest at the desk:
There may have also been something mentioned in the banter about having the Melbourne Cup trophy last week, if so I’m not sure which day that would’ve been. In any case, hopefully the desk didn’t wobble like it did when Seven had the NRL Premiership trophy in 2013 (when Chris & Jim were still presenting, ahh the good old days of Seven News Sydney)!
Start of AFL finals graphics
Cross to Blake Johnson was bad, kept freezing and breaking up.

Looks like 7 only has a half hour bulletin in Sydney tonight, at 7pm to follow the AFL.
thats not only sydney but melbourne too
Also Melbourne and Adelaide at 6.30
When was the last time 7 and 9 both went without their 6pm bulletin on the same night?
I honestly can’t think of a time where this has occurred, before tonight. At least in this century anyway.
Wouldn’t say that neither Seven or Nine aren’t airing a news bulletin - but rather are showing it in an alternative timeslot due to football finals coverage.
Seven News Sydney aired at 7pm due to an AFL finals game this time last year, but it seems Nine still ran it in the normal timeslot/duration. I’m fairly certain there have been occasions in the past when Nine have shown their Sydney bulletin at 5pm due to the scheduling of NRL coverage in the first week of the finals though.
You’ve completely misunderstood the question.
NewsKing was saying it must be the first time in at least 10 years that both Nine and Seven haven’t had a bulletin in the 6pm timeslot on the same night.
He said nothing about their not being a bulletin at all. He’s talking about the 6pm slot.
