From what I could recall, Seven offered her the role of senior reporter, but declined and subsequently resigned.

that’s essentially a boning, she was removed from her job to make way for Sharyn.
Challenor was doing pretty decent numbers herself on weekends too, before she was replaced.
Never to be seen again either… wasn’t picked up by another network. I wonder what she ended up doing.
Linkedin search says she is comms and PR for Life Education Queensland.
Yeah idk why we need to wait for the teasing and suspense announcement of the rotation of presenters.
They need a official announcement from them right now.
In August 2013, after Samantha Armytage was promoted to replace Melissa Doyle on the weekday Sunrise, Monique Wright initially temporarily replaced her on Weekend Sunrise but it wasn’t until February 2014 (some six months later) that her appointment was made official.
But yes I agree, the sooner WT address any changes, the better.

Inouk was terrible in that position as weekend weather presenter. I think she only lasted a few months if I recall.
And Jennifer had only just come back to Seven after Jennifer Adam’s had been demoted to reporting duties.
Four weeks, to be exact, for Inouk. She went back to just lotto afterwards.
The mid-noughties was a tough time for Seven (especially in Melbourne) without the AFL or Supercars to televise on the weekends, to the point that they regularly languished in third place, behind Nine and Ten (which at that point in time shared the AFL TV rights, along with Foxtel).
I can recall in 2004 Seven ranked third in the local Melbourne ratings for at least eight consecutive weeks in the middle of the year. All the while, its Sydney news (anchored by Ian Ross in his first year) and Sunrise were starting to gain some traction, while in Perth Rick and Sue continued to hold up the local ratings well.
2004 was also when 7 started turning things around programming wise as well… by that time I believe they had dancing with the stars… and in 2005 it was joined by Desperate Housewives and Lost.
All 3 were rating over 2 mil and episode if i recall.
they had dancing with the stars… and in 2005 it was joined by Desperate Housewives and Lost.
Border Security also rated well upon its premiere in late-2004.
There was also the revamp of Sunday Sunrise which had long struggled against Nine’s Sunday. I know SS had its own unique theme that existed between mid-2003 and April 2005 but I just can’t seem to find any footage of it on YouTube.
while in Perth Rick and Sue continued to hold up the local ratings well.
Seven would have been in much bigger trouble back then if it wasn’t for Perth’s loyalty to Rick and Sue. They literally kept the network alive.

Seven were also incredibly lucky to get Ian Ross. Things may have been very different if he hadn’t agreed to come out of retirement and took them to number one. That was a great get by Leckie.

The same could be said for Adelaide where Graeme Goodings and Jane Doyle lifted Seven News to number one at the turn of the century.
But even so, Nine was still the number one network locally.

Seven’s gain was Nine’s loss. If Nine had put Roscoe in the 6:00pm chair following Hendo’s retirement in 2002, as you say, things could have been different.
In the intervention, Jim Waley still did well to keep Nine’s news ratings afloat in Sydney until he was suddenly replaced by Mark Ferguson at the start of 2005.

Agreed.
Rick & Sue, and Jane & Graeme/John did the heavy lifting for the network for decades.
Jane & Graeme/John
And now Graeme’s son, Will, and Rosanna Mangiarelli have kept Seven News in Adelaide on top of the local ratings following Doyle’s retirement in 2022.
Goes to show that the loyalty factor is still there with Seven Adelaide. That of course begs the question - how will Seven Perth fare once Rick and Sue retire?
They’ll also want to learn a lesson or two from Brisbane, where Seven botched its sudden handover from Kay/Rod to Sharyn/Bill.

I do hate when nepotism results in a win haha

Yes, I always mark Athens Olympic 2004 was when the network started to turn around. Dancing with the stars and Border Security were both launched off the back of the Olympics. This then lead into the Summer of 2005 with the launch of Lost and Desperate House Wives.
Do Rick and Sue have children then can handover to?
