The Day We Walked On The Moon

image

Coming Soon

On July 20 2019, it will be 50 years since man first walked on the moon.

The Day We Walked On The Moon tells the dramatic story of how astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin got there, from the perspective of key figures in and around the Apollo 11 mission.

Over 400,000 people played a part in realising the goal set by President Kennedy in 1961 in just eight years. Three of the key figures in Mission Control, iconic Flight Director Gene Kranz, Capsule Communicator Charles Duke and Guidance Officer Steve Bales, explain just how close Apollo 11 came to failure at a number of points during its hazardous descent to the lunar surface.

Astronaut Frank Borman, commander of Apollo 8, was NASA’s liaison in the White House on the day. Along with President Nixon’s executive assistant, Dwight Chapin, he takes us inside the Oval Office to look at how they prepared the American leader for disaster, including the possibility that command module pilot Michael Collins would have to leave Armstrong and Aldrin behind on the Moon. Chapin and Borman also discuss why the Moon landing was so much more than a scientific achievement for America and its President, in an era dominated by assassinations and an unpopular war.

Meanwhile, recalling their time growing up in so-called “Togethersville”, the cluster of Houston neighbourhoods that were home to America’s astronauts and their families, Andy Aldrin, son of Buzz, and Rick & Mark Armstrong, sons of Neil, tell us what it was like for the wives and children as they nervously listened in to NASA’s radio feed. The Armstrongs, just 12 and 6 at the time, describe how their father sat them down before his departure to warn them just how dangerous his mission might be.

Further perspectives come from latter day astronaut Mike Massimino, an entranced 6 year old at the time, Professor Brian Cox and astrophysicist and Queen guitarist Brian May, each of whom see the Apollo 11 mission as an influence on the shape of their own future careers. From the Mission Control press room, journalist Adam Raphael and CBS newscaster David Schoumacher recall what it was like reporting the biggest story of their lives.

The Day We Walked On The Moon is the story of what, 50 years on, remains one of humanity’s greatest achievements - a moment etched in the minds of the 600m people who watched it around the world on live TV.

The Day We Walked on the Moon will premiere on ITV in UK and Smithsonian Channel in the US next month. I think Seven may show the documentary on or after July 21, due to AFL on July 20, the actual anniversary.

In Australia, the anniversary is really 21 July which is the when both the landing and moon walk happened Australian time.

According to the Foxtel EPG, Super Switch is now gone from this timeslot. Britain’s Got Talent has been moved to Wednesday 8.30. Not sure what goes in BGT’s slot on Thursday yet (maybe they’ll just play two episodes of BGT).

It seems to be market specific, with Sydney and Brisbane now getting a movie on Wednesday.

Would that not be due to State of Origin?

Some late changes for this tomorrow: SWAT has been cancelled tomorrow. Wimbledon (with Batty playing I assume) will air on 7 from 9pm. The two episodes appear to be postponed to next week.

Coming Soon

Over one Easter weekend, millions of pounds worth of jewels and cash were stolen from a high security vault at the heart of London’s diamond district. Over four tension-fueled episodes, Hatton Garden plunges viewers into the action as this daring, meticulously planned heist unfolds.

Following the destinies of the perpetrators, and the rivalries that emerged as they squabbled over the spoils, it also depicts the devastating impact on the victims - many were small family businesses that lost everything - and the gang’s families. And, by simultaneously tracking the complex police operation that closed in on the villains, reveals how this audacious, headline grabbing crime ultimately unraveled…

Cheat

Coming Soon

Inspiring some of the brightest young minds in the country, Dr Leah Dale (Katherine Kelly) has always prided herself on her academic integrity. Exceptionally hardworking but scrupulously fair, Leah gives everything to her work, and expects the same from her students. It’s a philosophy she’s inherited from her father, Michael (Peter Firth), himself a lecturer at the same university before he retired. So, when undergraduate Rose Vaughan (Molly Windsor), submits a suspiciously top grade essay, Leah is quick to call her out.

But what begins as a seemingly open and shut case of academic deception, soon spirals out of control. Frustrated that her Head of Department Harriet (Neve McIntosh) appears won over by Rose’s charm, Leah becomes consumed with exposing Rose as a cheat, causing tension in her already fractious home-life with Adam (Tom Goodman-Hill). But there’s more going on than meets the eye, as Rose takes Leah’s challenge as a personal affront. Aided by Ben (Burn Gorman), a college porter completely under her spell, Rose pursues a course of retaliation against her professor.

When Leah is almost caught making a serious professional transgression, she seeks advice from her mother Angela (Lorraine Ashbourne) and best friend Amy (Lara Rossi), leading her to attempt to de-escalate the situation. Yet despite her best efforts, things finally come to a head at a faculty party, where an embarrassing incident makes Leah doubt herself. But who is telling the truth? When Rose’s father William (Adrian Edmondson) visits her at the university, it’s clear Rose is a victim in their emotionally abusive relationship, William offering her no support. Is Leah being set up, or has she inadvertently involved herself with a deeply troubled individual?

The academic furore soon strays into both Leah and Rose’s personal lives. Adam and Leah are trying to have a baby, but the cheating scandal begins to disrupt their relationship from many angles. Just as things are beginning to be resolved, a devastating development forces Leah to reconsider both her personal and professional values. The exhilarating cat and mouse game between Rose and Leah is reignited. With two fiercely intelligent minds each unwilling to acquiesce, the relationships in both the women’s lives begin to unravel.

The truth is a ticking time bomb and it is finally exposed over the course of one explosive evening, resulting in consequences so devastating, they will change the course of both Leah and Rose’s lives forever. For one final time, the two women come face to face and are forced to reconcile with the truth. With startling twists and turns along the way, CHEAT is a gripping, psychological thriller that explores how far we’re prepared to go to stand up for what we believe is right - and at what cost.
