I realise theyâre capitalising on the huge lead-in from the AFL GF, but does this really suit the demographics?
I mean Die Hard does so probably wouldâve been better starting at 9pm, after a PG rated male-skewing blockbuster straight after the news.
I guess itâll be a good test for HW&W, theyâll never have a better opportunity. But canât see viewers staying into the evening, unless many just keep the TV on in the background during post-AFL GF celebrations (imagine 7mate will have a post show) and then people sit back later for Die Hard.
I feel like a special live edition of the Front Bar would have been perfect for the saturday night slot after the GF. Itâs football related, there is plenty you can work with given 7 has the entire coverage of the GF and itâs easy to put together. Missed opportunity by 7 there, i think.
There will be be NRL prelim on Saturday night on 9. So maybe thatâs why 7âs night after the grand final isnât that extravagant
Seven have been doing much post GF recently - just something at 7pm followed by a movie.
Last year it was
07:00 PM The 1% Club UK Rpt
08:00 PM Movie: The Martian
The year before
07:00 PM Border Security - Australiaâs Front Line
07:30 PM Movie: Free Guy
And 2022
07:00 PM Puppy School - premiere
07:30 PM Movie: Jumanji: The Next Level
2021 was COVID
I think the idea is that in the days of AFL/NRL prelim or grand final, the other networksâ counterprogramming should be relatively unattractive to avoid a channel switch.
Is it the case?
Nineâs sports counter programming against AFL grand final in recent years shows it is no longer the case. In 2022 it showed the UCI Road World Cycling Championships from Wollongong. In recent years it showed Bledisloe Cup live from New Zealand against AFL GF post-match presentations.
2020 COVID affected too (prime time AFL GF like 2021 - both with some record audiences).
2019 and 2018 they had special prime time cricket IIRC (early in Sevenâs CA deal).
2017 had an edited Indiana Jones movie from 7pm. Prior to the end of 2019 âMâ rated âfeaturesâ couldnât air before 8:30pm (despite M regular programming being allowed from 7:30pm since the end of 2015). One of the reasons I think for the Saturday changes at 7pm with the likes of ACA, as well as COVID, where they now often show M movies at 7:30pm instead of having to wait 90min like previously.
And I believe previous years were also movies from 7pm or before news went to 60min 6:30pm. Grown Ups or Grown Ups 2 was another.
Some new game show additions to Sevenâs afternoons
From Monday 22 September
01:10 PM Blankety Blank
The legendary Blankety Blank is back! Bradley Walsh hosts as a panel of six celebrities fill in the missing BLANKS and help win some brilliant prizes for some lucky contestants.
02:00 PM Bridge Of Lies (1 hour)
Daytime game show presented by Ross Kemp. Teams of contestants must be on their toes and keep their eye on the prize as they attempt to cross a bridge made of stepping stones - stepping on the truths and avoiding the lies.
There a TBA for 10 mins at 1:00 PM
Note that Saturdayâs news has been cut back to 30 mins (except Perth)
Here is some information on Bridge of Lies. The BBC is currently showing the fourth season.
Blankety Blank? I thought for a second that it was our version from decades ago. Oops. Lol.
Surprised that it, and Bridge of Lies, are taking over the 1.10-3pm slots. No reality show repeats in that period? Or are airing because itâs school holidays and are trialling it out?
Better lead in for new 3pm afternoon show perhaps
It will be between Footscray Bulldogs and Southport Sharks, live from Ikon Park in Melbourne. Sharks fans wanting to watch the match will have to rely on 7plus or AFL website/app, with no TV coverage in Queensland.
Interesting that the VFL GF has been bumped to 7mate with main channel showing AFLW instead.
Could we see Australian adaptations of either sometime down the track?
It worked with The Chase last decade, and likewise with Tipping Point on Nine.
Thereâs a To Be Advised slot on 7TWO from 12pm to 2pm on that same day. Maybe the reality show repeats are moving there?
Yes The Voice is scheduled for Monday on 7Two at midday.
And MKR later in the week on 24th and 25th.
Now thatâs different for Seven. Not often we see encores for those shows on 7Two.
Trialling out a new daytime schedule before the official announcement of âThe Afternoon Showâ at 3pm?
