The Great Race will start on 11.45am AEDT on Sunday, October 12.
According to Supercars website:
The 2025 Repco Bathurst 1000 is the first Great Race to start at 11:45am, and is starting 15 minutes later than last year’s race.
The race commenced at 10:00am local time between 1979 and 2006, before it was moved to 10:30am in 2007. The race commenced at 11:15am in 2016, 2017 and 2018, with the 2019 race starting at 11:30am.
The 2021 race, held in December for the first and only time, remains the latest ever Great Race start at 12:15pm local time.
As the Bathurst 1000 typically runs for more than six hours (barring any safety car period), a 11.45am start means the race will just finish before the 6pm news in Sydney and Melbourne, with post-race presentation on 7two or 7mate in both cities.
Kinda wonder whether 7 asked for this start to have a stronger lead-in to the news (albeit just two cities).
Although this approach could backfire if there’s even one SC as you said.
Can just imagine it now… “For post-race analysis, NSW/VIC viewers standby to switch to 7mate”.
The 2025 Bathurst 1000 preview show will air on Seven on Sunday, October 5, according to a promo shown during The Front Bar tonight.

The jewel in the crown of the Supercars Championship, the 2025 Supercars Championship Repco Bathurst 1000, kicks into gear next Friday, 10 October and the Seven Network will bring fans three full days of high-octane action live and free from Mount Panorama.
On the 65th running of the Great Race*, Seven’s coverage begins from 10.00am AEDT Friday, 10 October, on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport, delivering all the unmissable moments from the practice laps to the all-important race and celebrations on Sunday.
Seven’s broadcast of the highly anticipated final day at Mount Panorama starts from 7.00am AEDT Sunday on Seven and 7plus Sport, with the main race coverage beginning at 10.00am AEDT.
Leading Seven’s coverage for the 2025 Bathurst 1000 will be 7NEWS Sydney Sport Anchor and 7Sport host, Mel McLaughlin, alongside veteran motorsport expert and Sunrise sport presenter Mark Beretta, who will broadcast live from Mount Panorama across the three action-packed days.
Joining them is Supercars co-driver and 7Motorsport host, Jack Perkins, who will provide expert insights when away from the wheel. Fan-favourite Emma Freedman will capture the excitement and atmosphere from the mountain and campgrounds, while reporter Chris Stubbs will deliver all the biggest stories live the heart of the action.

Ahead of a massive weekend of Supercars Championship action, Seven revs up the excitement with the Repco Bathurst 1000 Preview Show, hosted by Jack Perkins alongside Supercars expert and five-time Bathurst 1000 Champion, Garth Tander, and 2013 Bathurst 1000 Champion, Mark Winterbottom, broadcast on Sunday, 5 October from 12.00pm AEDT on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
They will be joined by Brodie Kostecki and his co-driver Todd Hazelwood, plus Supercars star Cam Waters, as they break down the biggest race of the year.
In an exciting announcement for motorsport fans, Seven will premiere Drive Like A Girl, the inspiring story of 7Motorsport Reporter and champion driver Molly Taylor, who has forged a remarkable career in one of the toughest sporting arenas.
Shining a light on the realities of professional motorsport, Drive Like A Girl uncovers the resilience and passion driving women to succeed in an unforgiving industry. The 45-minute MaD Garage and Unleaded Films production lifts the curtain on the often-unseen side of the sport, sharing the journey of one of Australia’s most successful female racing drivers.
Drive Like A Girl premieres at 11.00am, Monday 6 October on 7mate and 7plus Sport, and will be available to stream on demand on 7plus Sport.

So many different ways that adverts were presented - full screen mostly between races, lots of split boxes during races so nothing was missed, product placement, some advertorials during the coverage and more…
One thing I did notice on 7’s Bathurst coverage today. 7 Coffs Harbour didn’t do the split screen during ad breaks. 7 Sydney did and I assume the other metro markets are as well.
Is Seven Regional (formerly Prime Media for most markets) still operated out of that base/studios in Canberra? I’d thought it was more just ownership and upper management, as well as the branding obviously and streamlining, that’d changed since the takeover.
Your observation could be an indication. IIRC Prime playout was Mediahub, rather than BCM and now NPC Media, so wonder if that’s still the case?
Ex-Prime doesn’t do any of the add-ons during breaks (this and the Cricket score watermark.) I think they’re still being played out of Telstra Mediacloud, not NPC, which means they don’t have access to them.
Underway now (there’s rain coming up to add to the misery). The race will likely not finish at 7.30pm AEDT even.
At some point it will have to bounce to 7mate (I hope not!).
Seven should count themselves extremely lucky the AFLW on Mate is in the afternoon today, which makes moving the race over a lot easier.

Why would you switch the end of the race to a multi-channel?
That’s your peak audience.
Something to do with the news if there are too many safety cars or lengthy rain delay, I just think.
Happy to say the race will finish on the main channel because those conditions will not suffice. Just not exactly 6 o’clock though.
Oh look if the race is not actually on at 6pm, then for sure, put the news on.
But if it is in its final stages, then keep it where it is.
It’ll rate higher than the voice.
