So boring

Agree. Very sterile and lifeless.

Weird that they got a replica Sunrise desk… wonder if there will be more local broadcasts for Sunrise? sunrise Melbourne news?
It’s built end to end like the sunrise set.

If that is indeed going to double as the news set, what a cheap, boring and uninspiring set. No doubt with the style of Melbourne they will line 3 live shots of Melbourne on that screen with a transition line… ignoring the actual Geography of the actual city. :man_facepalming:t2:

They called it HSV.

Waiting for that one member on here to complain again.

Someone save that big red Channel 7 logo statue before it goes away for good.

I remember visiting HSV in docklands just after they moved in. I was in high school and had the opportunity to see how things were done.

It was newsroom backdrop, struggling ratings and Naomi Robson.

Peter Mitchell and actually all of the journos and presenters were so lovely. I think we stayed for 4 hours.

There was certainly a buzz with so many people running the show.

Ah the good ol days

It would be nice to see it relocated to their new home, but they probably got told no because it’ll clash with the architects vision, or something

The good old days were at Dorcas St with dramas, comedy, news and current affairs all under one roof before everything became blank office buildings in the CBD.

I really wonder what will happen to the Big Red Seven?

I’m assuming it can’t be dismantled? Or moved?

From memory, weren’t Seven still using the old South Melbourne site even well after Docklands opened in 2002? Such as Blue Heelers filming (sets and interiors), so that’d be at least 2006. Fox Sports’ Melbourne base now isn’t it.

Think it was the same sort of situation with ATN and Epping.

Just on a separate note, about the recent discussion on HSV’s new base. At least they’re, largely, still home to Seven Sport (which I think TVT noted have moved into the new building already). No other network has their sport operations centred, at least to my knowledge, in Melbourne, despite the large sporting calendar and culture synonymous with the city.

AFAIK Nine, Ten, ABC, SBS and Foxtel all still have theirs in Sydney.

And add to this, Docklands also housed BCM for the network playout, whereas all other networks, again, based in NSW.

So Seven Melbourne are quite unique and was IMO a good thing seeing somewhere outside of Sydney have major input into TV broadcasting.

I think the old Dorcas Street site is now NEP Studios.

As good as Docklands appeared, then in-line with the digital and technology revolution on the 2000s, I still liked the facade exterior of the old studios at Dorcas St, think they even still had the iconic 90s 7 logo on it into the early 2000s. And if you recall shots of the reception and hallways, was a more warm and tight knit environment, akin to the golden days of earlier television stations vs the now fragmented network set-ups and larger multi-level buildings which lack that old style feel.

The original HSV7 Office Building, Newsroom / Studio, Sales and famous Studio 1 were demolished around 2007. I believe City Homicide (season 1) filmed its interior scenes from the former HSV7 newsroom.

The current NEP site across the road was owned by Seven up until 2006. I believe this studios were an extension to the HSV7 studios back in the late 70s.

There use to be a footbridge ( over the road) linking the two HSV7 sites together. I remember going to the studios as a kid in 1995.

Found this old TVT report from 2008.

IIRC, TV Ringside used to be filmed at the Dorcas Street Studios until it became too big and had to move to Festival Hall.

Yes, that was from the historical Studio 1. We are lucky to have this documentary put together 20 years ago, that captured a lot of the early days of HSV7.
