Seven Cricket Coverage

They never promised it to be ‘Live and Free and in HD though’

Live and Free on Seven or Live and Free on the screens of Seven? There’s a difference there and they usually advertise the latter to cover all the different markets and channels things inevitably will be on.
Yes, it sucks that some things aren’t in HD but it’s still better than not having them at all which was the case only a few years ago. Until they can move more channels to HD and not lose too many viewers we’ll just have to live with it.

We aren’t far away from a FTA network launching an additional HD MPEG-4 channel hopefully. SBS has lead the way so far and sport coverage should be the driver for the other FTA networks.

Agree with your sentiment but need to pick you up on it. Wimbledon isn’t simulcast per se - Seven picks two matches each day that they’ll have exclusive rights to before Fox picks three matches they’ll exclusively air. Any other matches not picked as part of this process can air on both networks.

This arrangement occurs until the quarterfinals - Seven has exclusive live rights to the semifinals and finals

I don’t think he’s satisfied with that until the competition is exclusive to FTA, and preferably on any network but Seven :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

IIRC… Last time The Ashes were on 9 and Gem it gave Gem in particular huge ratings. This will no doubt give 9 more weekly wins if the rest of their schedule is sound.

You should be able to stream 9Gem in HD (you could during the Australian Open tennis)

Australian bowler Mitchell Starc (who is being rested during the team’s Indian tour) is joining Seven’s commentary team for today’s women’s ODI between Australia and NZ at Melbourne’s Junction Oval. It’s also Seven’s last cricket match for this summer.

Cricket Australia is set to reveal the 2019-20 cricket fixture tomorrow (Tuesday). News Corp yesterday reported that Australia is set to play back-to-back day/night tests this summer, against Pakistan in Adelaide and New Zealand in Perth. A day/night test in Perth could be a ratings issue for Seven, as the three hour time difference means the last session won’t finish in Sydney and Melbourne until somewhere between 11pm and midnight AEDT.

What happens during the Australia v Nz test in Perth. At 6pm, Perth will have seven news/Today Tonight while the test is switched to 7mate for 60 mins. (I believe that this will be dinner break).

Australia’s test fixture next summer

The Perth test starts at 1pm AWST (4pm AEDT) each day while the Adelaide test starts at 2pm ACST (2.30pm AEDT) each day.

Seven’s coverage commences on September 29, the day after AFL Grand Final, when Australian women’s team takes on Sri Lanka in the first T20 clash at North Sydney Oval. The two teams will play three T20 matches in North Sydney and three ODIs at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field in 11 days from September 29 to October 9, with no play on NRL Grand Final day (October 6).
There will be no international cricket on Seven from October 10 till November 21 when the first test against Pakistan begins in Brisbane, and also on Australia Day next year.
Seven will show a women’s T20 tri-series between Australia, India and England from January 31 to February 12 as the teams prepare for the Women’s T20 World Cup. The 7 matches will be split between Canberra’s Manuka Oval and Melbourne’s Junction Oval.
It’s the first time in history that summer of cricket will be split between three broadcasters (Seven, Nine, Fox Cricket).

Surprised that T20 isn’t scheduled to follow the AFL GF like it did last year - thought doing that last year worked well both from a ratings and promotional POV

At least unlike last year, they’ll have the WBBL to fill the gap between the September/October women’s T20 international series and the tests beginning

According to Cricket Australia, the Perth test will have a 40-minute lunch break at the first interval (3pm AWST or 6pm AEDT) while the Adelaide test will have a 20-minute tea break between the first and second session. The 40-minute lunch break for the Perth test means Seven can show the news in NSW, ACT, VIC and TAS during the period.

What is this, Seven controlling fixtures now

You could say that. The Perth test will finish each day at 8pm local time and 11pm AEDT in Sydney and Melbourne. If play is to go to 9pm like Brisbane and Adelaide, it will have finished at midnight in Sydney and Melbourne. Seven obviously think that’s too late for some cricket fans.

For the Perth test They will have breaks at 3pm and 6pm local time. At 6pm (EDT), nsw, vic, tas and act will go straight to news with tea break on 7mate. For Adelaide, qld and Northern Territory viewers what will it happen next?
I know Perth viewers have news at 6pm on primary channel so that they can push The dinner break to 7mate. I think that 7 Perth will have Today tonight while the cricket test is on.

A closer look at Seven’s test schedule shows that the Perth test will clash with President’s Cup golf from Royal Melbourne Golf Club (which will be on Nine) on December 12-15, but avoids the other two golf tournaments televised by Seven, the Emirates Australian Open (December 5-8) and Australian PGA Championship (December 19-22). The Brisbane test against Pakistan overlaps with the final Supercars event of 2019, the Newcastle 500 (November 22-24) which will be shown live on 10.

Brendon McCullum will join Channel 7’s commentarty team for the NZ Test Series and BBL.

Michael Slater gone.

Slater’s omission was hinted in yesterday’s Herald Sun although the paper did not mention him by name. He could rejoin Nine for the Ashes coverage, or switch to Fox Cricket.
However the biggest loss has to be David Barham’s departure from Seven, as mentioned further down the article.
