I could be wrong, but I think I saw this on ESPN last year.

Looks like 7 was outbid by ESPN.

But it’s good to see 7 actually trying to get overseas series.

Agree but it’s just too bad they couldn’t get domestic mens white ball games

ESPN’s Caribbean arm holds the domestic rights to the tour.

Probably made it an attractive proposition then, given the potential for shared resources.

That’s what I was thinking. WI board probably preferred it to be ESPN since it’s broadcast locally by the same broadcaster.

I guess after they topped the 7 offer they went with them instead of trying to get a bidding war and getting everyone to up their offer.

Seven secures Major League Cricket

America’s top T20 competition live and free on 7plus Sport from Friday 13 June

The Seven Network today announced it has secured a multi-year deal for the exclusive rights to America’s Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament in Australia, with all 34 T20 matches to be broadcast live and free on 7plus Sport.

Now in its third year, the top American T20 competition has attracted a number of international superstars, including Australians Xavier Bartlett, Jason Behrendorff, Cooper Connolly, Jack Edwards, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Owen, Steve Smith, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis and David Warner.

Former Australian captain and 7Cricket commentator, Ricky Ponting, is also the head coach of Washington Freedom.

MLC is the first professional T20 cricket league in the United States, with Australian talent competing alongside America’s best domestic talent from Dallas, San Francisco, New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles and Washington D.C.

Seven’s Commercial Director, Sport, Renée Quirk, said: “We’re thrilled to be expanding our cricket footprint with the addition of Major League Cricket to 7plus Sport, offering fans a new and exciting competition to follow through winter.

“It’s a natural extension of our cricket story after a blockbuster Indian summer, and it sets the stage perfectly as we build towards a huge Ashes summer ahead.

“This partnership with MLC is just the beginning of a multi-year journey. We’re proud to offer live and free coverage of the competition, with every match on 7plus Sport and the Final simulcast on 7mate and 7plus Sport, helping expose a new wave of talent and excitement to Aussie fans,” she said.

Seven’s Head of Cricket, Joel Starcevic, said: “Major League Cricket is the next frontier for the sport and we cannot wait to deliver every ball to fans across Australia, live, free and exclusively on 7plus Sport.

“Like any American sporting product, it’s going to be massive, and we’re thrilled to bring all 34 games to Australian viewers as we count down to an unbelievable Summer of Cricket on Seven and 7plus Sport.

“Aussie cricket fans are in for a real treat with a talent-packed local contingent lighting up Major League Cricket. Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Owen and Jason Behrendorff are all lining up for the defending champions, Washington Freedom, under the leadership of none other than Ricky Ponting,” he said.

“They will also face a host of other big Aussie names, including David Warner, Marcus Stoinis and Mitch Marsh, alongside global superstars like Rashid Khan and Quinton de Kock. It’s a world-class line-up.

“Whether you’re tuning in with your morning coffee or setting up a second screen at work, Major League Cricket is the perfect companion for Aussie fans this winter,” he said.

Major League Cricket Chief Executive Officer, Johnny Grave, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Seven, ensuring cricket fans across Australia can watch every match of Cognizant Major League Cricket live this season.

“This agreement reflects the league’s continued growth and rising global interest. Partnering with a leading broadcaster in a major cricket market is a strong endorsement of the world-class talent on display this year,” he said.

The tournament kicks off on Friday 13 June 2025, with San Francisco Unicorns taking on Washington Freedom from 9.00am AEST. All matches will be streamed live and free on 7plus Sport, with the final broadcast live on 7mate on Monday 14 July.

Special TV event on Seven and 7plus Sport

Cricket fans are in for an afternoon of big names, bold selections and blockbuster entertainment when the 2025 Big Bash Draft lands on 7mate and 7plus Sport at 4.00pm AEST, Thursday 19 June.

The 90-minute special event will feature all the biggest moments from both the KFC BBL|15 and Weber WBBL|11 drafts, with expert analysis, player insights and sharp analysis from cricket’s #1 commentary team.

Seven’s all-star hosting panel will feature BBL champion Aaron Finch, Jason Richardson and former New Zealand wicketkeeper Katey Martin, bringing fans every pick and player from both drafts.

Brisbane Heat will get first access to the elite international talent available in the KFC BBL|15 Draft after drawing the coveted Pick One, while the Sydney Sixers hold Pick One in the Weber WBBL|11 Draft, giving them a major opportunity to supercharge their squad and set the tone for the season ahead.

Both drafts will be held on Thursday, 19 June, with earlier timing allowing clubs to finalise planning and recruitment well ahead of the summer.

The portal for overseas players to nominate for the drafts opened on 28 April, with plenty of international stars expected to put their name forward.

Seven’s Head of Cricket, Joel Starcevic, said: “The Big Bash Draft is high stakes, fast moving and packed with talent and we’re thrilled to bring it to Aussie fans live and free on 7mate and 7plus Sport.

“With huge names on offer and every team looking for the X-factor that could win them a title, anything can happen on draft night.

“We’re hearing whispers of some high-profile international stars being available for the Big Bash this summer, and if these names get announced on draft day, it would make for an exciting lead-in to the BBL and WBBL that’s for sure,” he said.

“We’ve assembled a fantastic hosting team in Aaron Finch, Jason Richardson and Katey Martin to guide us through every twist and turn, while providing sharp insights into the competition’s most exciting international signings. We will be speaking to all Big Bash clubs in the moments immediately after each draft to get their instant thoughts on how their list is shaping up.

“This year’s draft is more important than ever. The earlier date gives Clubs the chance to lock in their stars well ahead of the season and sets the scene for a thrilling summer of BBL and WBBL live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport,” Mr Starcevic said.
