Seven Cricket Coverage

Yep.

600k-950k metro vs 250-350k, yes I’m sure they’re ecstatic

Next court case Seven will be suing the Australian Cricket Team over their performance at the Ashes.

they should sue England & Wales Cricket Board

Test Matches are not guaranteed to run for the full 5 days, that’s part of the risk they take on when buying the rights.

What do we think Seven’s coverage of the men’s Ashes series? I think Seven put in a lot more effort than Fox in commentary and analysis, by recruiting former England players and commentators like Mike Atherton, Ian Botham, David Gower, David Lloyd etc.

I wonder if Seven will put in a similar effort for its coverage of Australia’s home series against South Africa later this year?

I was trying to support Johnson’s comment, which others have also echoed previously, that Seven and Cricket Australia can still be “disappointed”, as they would be, sport is sport and test cricket is test cricket yes, but it still stands that two prime times are now missed including two full days of booked advertising. And they’ve also inadvertently gifted Nine’s first days of tennis.

Not sure that’s what James Warburton and Lewis Martin “wanted” (a certain court battle a year ago suggests otherwise). Have to ask Tim Worner and Saul Shtein who are long gone

From what I’ve seen, Seven’s coverage is vastly improved however I still think they have a massive drop off in quality of Australian pundits from Ponting.
But recruiting the quality of England pundits they have has helped lift their coverage.

The presentation also feels a little cheap still.

Seven also lacks the technical polish of fox. They do not have flying fox or fox rover so the pictures are somewhat drab.

Foxy Rover. The bugbear of Stuart Broad

It certainly doesn’t help that what is a fairly small pool of talent is spread incredibly thin either (across not just game formats but also tv and radio). Meanwhile, Fox is rapidly becoming Nine 2.0, just with more modern commentators.

I ended up ditching the audio and listening to Triple M instead who I thought in the main did a really good job

It feels like we’re reached a point where you need to make a choice between having decent commentary on Seven or the decent visuals and presentation that Fox is providing

Agreed - the pool is too small and it dilutes the quality across the board. 5 broadcasters is too many.

To be fair, there is a massive drop in quality from Ponting to almost every other pundit worldwide, let alone Australia.

For the most part, 7 have recruited pretty well over the years imo with guys like Blewett and Katich etc. Not having Slater was a big positive this year to me.

Each to their own I suppose. I had to listen to Triple M in the car quite a bit this summer as I was having trouble with the ABC, and had to turn off a few times with the nonsense they were talking. They had some good members in their team but they were just lost imo.

Ok let’s not go overboard lol

Triple M’s coverage is absolutely hilarious - I often sync it to match with my visual Fox coverage. I’m not sure the analysis is all that great, but the commentary is very entertaining.

Triple M was very entertaining yet still informative (Blewett, Haddin and Izzy Westbury the real stars of their coverage), but I still found myself listening to the SEN pre-match coverage for some more depth. Gerard Whateley alongside Mike Atherton was often very engaging in the mornings before play.

Well by ‘worldwide’ i mean ‘within the group of current commentators worldwide’. It’s not a vast pool and not really over the top to suggest that Ponting is one of the best. A fall away after him imo is to be expected within a commentary team.

Edit: lol guess I’m in the minority about Triple M. Glad you guys enjoy/ enjoyed it!

I agree completely about Ponting, he’s the best commentator in the world for me right now.

Overall 7’s coverage is up there with the best around, even the Sky coverage has declined quite a bit over the past couple of years. I can take or leave alone the gimmickery and the camera angles on Fox, don’t really add much to the Test viewing experience.

Also concur on Triple M, I found it unbearable, I’m sure I’m in a minority but there’s only so much Merv Hughes related gags I can take. Much preferred listening to SEN with Collins, Whateley and Lalor.

Howzat for a Test summer!

11.72 million salute Aussie victory on Seven

Australia got behind Pat Cummins’ triumphant Test team this summer, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage of the 2021-22 Australia-England Ashes series reaching 11.72 million people nationally and an average peak of 1.47 million each day.

The Aussies capped off a dominant 4-0 series victory when they obliterated England’s fragile batting line-up in an exhilarating day three of the fifth Test in Hobart yesterday, with Seven’s coverage of the Fifth Test reaching 6.9 million Australians and peaking at 1.58 million.

Seven’s day three coverage reached 4.8 million viewers nationally and peaked at 1.7 million people. The second session had 1.28 million viewers nationally, while 1.2 million tuned in for the third session and 1.17 million for the first session. All sessions dominated their timeslots, ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people.

Seven delivered 77% of the Ashes broadcast audience across the five-Test series, while the national audience was up 2% on the 2017-18 series between Australia and England on home soil.

There is still plenty to look forward to in Seven’s Summer of Cricket. Australia’s world-beating women’s team squares off against traditional rivals England in the Women’s Ashes series starting this Thursday, 20 January.

And all the explosive action of the Big Bash League continues in the lead-up to the five-game finals series that kicks off on Friday, 21 January.

I’m in the same boat, listened to a bit over the weekend, I could swear you hear deliveries in the effects mic but they’re too busy yapping away about something vaguely related to cricket anda only call it if something happens.
