No, he is an expert, along with Katich, with Nicholson commentating.
That’s commentating isn’t it? Nicolson is also commentating but doing ball by ball
Looks like JB, Botham are out with COVID?
They’re still doing that?
What happens if all the “ball by ball” commentators get Covid? Imagine just having “experts” doing commentary
There’s always a designated lead caller regardless of whether they are former players or not.
Hence how you’ll notice one always calls the wickets, fours, sixes etc and it doesn’t change during the stint they’re in the box. I haven’t known a broadcaster in recent times that hasn’t employed this approach.
Atherton also at the SCG
Seven must’ve flied him over from England between the two tests given it finished day 3?
Atherton? He’s been in Australia the whole time. He’s the head cricket writer for The Times, as well as Sky UK commitments.
Atherton has also been commentating for SEN.
Yeah - I imagine Seven asked him if he could help them out between his other commitments when they had a few Covid issues.
Atherton very good to listen to, offers a lot more than Botham
Was just about to post exactly that. I would have no issue if they kept him on for the remaining two tests.
Which is always one of Brayshaw, Lane, Mitchell and/or Nicolson. Nogt to mention the radio on tv commentary they’re forced to do. Fox isn’t much better with one of Julian, Guha and Howard at all times.
I watched quite a bit of the NZ v Bangladesh Test match and the commentary was like a breath of fresh air to me. Didn’t seem like we were subjected to the same three commentators all the time.
This is a fair point - the switch to 3 person commentary (in a lot of cricket booths) made the anchor/lead role more defined in order to allow the other two to have a clearer analysis role.
Spark largely employs a 2-person approach so you get more variety, except for day five today when they went to 3 people presumably because an early finish was likely.
Judging by his 7 pin, I’d say he has now ‘joined’ the team for the rest of the series.
Is that an actual condition when they get handed their 7 pin and attach it to their lapel?
7 really can’t take a trick with the cricket… with tests finishing early and now rain delays…
Well at least this one might make 5 days at this rate.
No, he just didn’t have one when he filled in last test.
One of the reasons Nine went for the tennis in preference to cricket and its delays and short test matches.
Just one BBL game on Seven tonight.
