Seven Cricket Coverage

Something that I don’t understand is why they don’t delay the late games played in Perth. It starts around 6:15pm, so they have time to delay it until the previous match finishes. Matches played in other time zones start around 8:15 or 9:15, so it’s understandable that those matches can’t be delayed

Once again the broadcasters lose out with an early finish - in this case getting less than 3 days worth of play, I’d say they would be furious.

No games in Perth this season due to WA’s pseudo-succession from Australia.

I think it would benefit Seven’s primetime share (6pm-12pm) by improving 7Mate’s usual 8:30pm audience.

And I think a few more people would contemplate staying up for the 2nd game knowing it would finish by midnight rather than 12:30am.

I’m not show what Seven gains at the moment with content going beyond midnight (and outside of primetime)

Well they didn’t delay the only game in Perth this season but also in the other season they don’t really delay the late game even when they could

It’s an interesting debate - but I think people would switch off after the first game, rather than join a match with a run chase that they’re not as invested in because they haven’t seen the first innings.

All you’re doing is splitting a like for like audience across two channels - not ideal for the advertisers that have purchased cricket eyeballs

Glenn McGrath joined 7 when they won the rights but he is with BT Sport’s cricket coverage this season with Alison Mitchell

Yes, I was surprised they started that game without delaying for a little (I think from memory it was about 15 mins).

Using the Perth time zone is good - only really during Summer though when people are off work so can go to bed at midnight, otherwise during AFL it’s getting a bit late.

I like the long days of cricket and it finishing off in Perth but this year with their border closures it’s made things tough, does having games start so late in the other cities affect the crowds? I’d go to a 7 or 7:30pm starting game but any later and I probably wouldn’t because of the kids etc…

It did. On Boxing Day a crowd of a few thousands went to the late game at Marvel Stadium for Scorchers’ home game against Renegades.

I’m a Renegades member and they even offered all members additional free tickets to get the crowd up.

Seven what the heck are they doing with my screen? FFS.

Terrible production tonight.

Seems to be some issues tonight. The advertising was looking very patchy when overlayed onto the ground and then the screen went like this for a while.

I noticed the same with Fox during the test match as well - was kind of offputting

Interesting, haven’t watched much of Fox this year (can’t stand Warne) and so haven’t noticed. It seems to have been fine since the beginning, I have a feeling something got a reboot and that’s why we had the other issue for a couple of minutes and nothing since.

According to the Herald Sun, the positive Covid case is a Stars staff member and there’s concerns that PCR testing results for the players won’t be known in time for the 7:15pm local start time.

Obviously this will result in Seven having to find alternative programming to air tonight in place of the BBL.

Double standards

Ashes on Monday: English players can go and get a RAT and play

BBL tonight: Stars players not allowed to get a RAT and match is called off

No they needed to get PCR tests because they are not in a bubble like the Test teams are.
