Because, like Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton, the Broncos, etc. they will rate the most. They have the big name stars (i.e. Perry and Healy) that will draw the most.
Seven has bumped next week’s Women’s Big Bash League Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars to 7Mate in Sydney and Melbourne.
WHY!!!
Ratings in Sydney and Melbourne weren’t good. So it was moved to 7Mate.
I do hope that some games in Summer remain on Seven in the near future, especially when there’s less competition on other channels nearing their bare “summer schedule”
The ratings resulted in Seven recording their lowest Thursday share of the year.
The WBBL hasn’t even started yet. Also, its the opening game of the season.
If you are referring to the Women’s International, I hope your realise that rain was a big factor which resulted in the game being abandoned…
Who cares what channel it’s on as long as it’s in HD
Exactly. It doesn’t matter. I would love every game on the main channel as much as you @VictorianSun , with every person tuning in, but it’s just not going to happen sadly.
All good for those in metro land and regional Queensland, but for the rest of us with 7mate in shitty SD…?
Thank god for Fox Cricket.
Just saw a promo still showing/saying WBBL on “7” this Thursday, thought it changed to 7mate nationally?
Brisbane is getting the 7Mate ads but with no time adjustment - as usual viewers need to know how to convert DST to local time.
This was the exact same one I saw during the morning news, except the “7mates” were “7s”. Maybe they forgot to remove it from the play-out system and replace it with the edited one in some markets? I’m sure it’ll be noticed and rectified eventually.
Ian Botham joining the Ashes commentary team
Love it. He’s got his detractors but I’ve always enjoyed his commentary because he calls a spade a spade.
Listening to him rubbish England’s bowling to Ashton Agar in his debut test was fantastic.
Great signing by Seven. Will he be exclusive to Seven or available to radio networks covering the Ashes as well (ABC/SEN/Triple M)?
It probably means Alison Mitchell won’t be returning to Australia this summer.
Ian Botham is another good commentator to join the Seven’s Ashes coverage. He has worked with Sky Cricket’s coverage for many years through to 2019.
I think both will be here. I think he will also be on Triple M.
Lord Ian Botham joins Seven’s Summer of Cricket
Cricket’s #1 commentary team just got even better, with the Seven Network adding one of the game’s all-time greats – Lord Ian Botham – to its illustrious line-up for what is already shaping as an unforgettable 2021-22 season.
The straight-talking former England Test captain, and one of the best-ever all-rounders with 5,200 Test runs and 383 Test wickets, will join Seven for all five Tests in Australia’s blockbuster Ashes series against England, when the two teams go head-to-head in cricket’s oldest rivalry.
From the opening day of the first Test at The Gabba on 8 December, Lord Botham will be part of Seven’s unrivalled team that will again be led by cricket’s most astute commentator, former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting.
Lord Botham said: “There is nothing more exciting in world sport than England and Australia battling for the Ashes.
“I’m extremely excited to be spending the summer in Australia with Seven and watching England take back the Ashes.”
Following eight five-fors in his first 11 Tests, in 1979, at the age of just 23, Lord Botham became the fifth-fastest in history to 100 wickets. Two years later, after 41 Tests, he became the third-fastest to 200 wickets, by which time he had also made eight of his 14 hundreds. He scored a century and took five wickets in the same Test on five occasions – a feat no other player has managed more than twice in their career – and at Mumbai in 1980, he became the first man to score a century and take 10 wickets in the same Test. Only his great rival, Imran Khan, and Shakib Al Hasan have matched that in the 40 years since.
Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “In a summer when cricket’s greatest-ever rivalry takes centre stage right here on Australian shores, we are going all out to assemble an all-star commentary team.
“One of the legendary cricketers of the modern era, Australia has oft despised, sometimes loved, occasionally laughed with, but always respected ‘Beefy’. His record speaks for itself and it is truly an honour to welcome Lord Botham to Seven this summer.”
Why would it mean Alison Mitchell won’t be returning? Alison is a ball by ball commentator and Botham would provide special comments.
Correct. Both will be coming over. Only real difference from last year is Botham in for Slater (and the Indian special comments are out as well of course). No news yet as to whether Lara will return.
