They could simply sign some back.
And their first run reality shows seem to be working. Why bother on the cricket?
Also because it is not exclusive. No one wants something they have to share with shitty fox.
What we saw in the leadup to the altered NRL deal is a little bit similar to what we are seeing here - a lot of bluff and bluster but ultimately a deal. While its possibly unlikely that the CA deal will follow the same route, the playbook has got another dust off
Doesn’t it have to be on FTA though! It’s the premier cricket camp in Australia!
If worse comes to worse it can go to the ABC or SBS
Anyway, there has been no mention of the women’s intl broadcast rights though. Does seven still want these?
Also we’ve got a T20WC next year WITHOUT a FTA broadcaster
I honestly couldnt believe what has happened with Seven’s cricket coverage! They are planning to get rid of the Men’s BBL! To have the BBL simulcast with FOX Cricket is a disgrace! Previously when the BBL was shown exclusive to CHannel 10, their ratings were quite solid. Butt when the BBL was shown on Seven and Fox, Channel 7’s ratings were down. Screw Channel 7, they’re literally ripping off fans because of the simulcast with Pay TV. Fans don’t want to put up with Fox. If SEven get rid of BBL, fans will miss out as they have to either get Foxtel or subscribe to Kayo. CA has done a lot of damage to the match and look at their ratings.
Pretty much every sport has elements of simulcast with the exception being Tennis Australia. Are all those sports ripping off their fans too?
No doubt that Tennis rates higher than the cricket because of the simulcast deal. WHen Seven lost the tennis to Nine, the ratings were down because of the deal. Nine wanted the tennis because their channel lost a lot of money. That was the reason why Hugh Marks, CEO of Nine said that he wanted the tennis over the cricket. In late 2017, CHannel Nine lost a lot of money when televising the cricket (This was due to rain delays and early finishes). Channel SEven gained the rights to cricket and look at the ratings. It has gone down. This is the reason why their stock shares are down.
Sorry but this whole paragraph doesn’t make any sense.
Remember, like the AFL deal, this is a foxtel run deal, majority paid for by foxtel. The only reason Ch7 is involved is the anti-siphoning laws.
It also seems in contrast to Tim Worner, James Warburton doesn’t share the same positive view about the deal (well at least the BBL component of it anyway)
Considering it’s not on the anti-siphoning list, it technically doesn’t.
I wouldn’t say the AFL deal is ‘Foxtel run’. While yes they do pay the most out of any rights-holder, the overall deal wasn’t put together with them in mind
comparing 2 weeks of tennis with 2 months of cricket, cricket works out cheaper !
Ben Horne from News Ltd has just reported that Seven have commenced legal proceedings to terminate cricket deal.
Story just hit the tiser
Seven needs to be careful here, termination of its broadcast deal means it won’t cover the upcoming women’s series between Australia and New Zealand, leaving Fox Cricket as the sole broadcaster for the time being.
News Corp understands that the network sent a legal letter to CA bosses earlier this week informing them that they would begin the process to cancel the remainder of their $450 million deal, citing a belief that Cricket Australia is in breach of their contract.
Cricket Australia say the letter sent to them was not a termination letter.
Something tells me that Seven probably dont care at this point
Why would they care? I’d think it would be Fox that would be the ones worrying, as they haven’t ever done anything when broadcasting Women’s cricket (aside from the T20WC). Fox took Seven’s feed, without a pre-post-innings break broadcasts, showing documentaries and shows instead. They will actually have to do something now.
To be honest, Fox might give more of a shit than Seven about cricket at this stage…mind you they have $30 million tax-payer funded reasons to give more a shit.
