Seven Cricket Coverage

Seven are airing a documentary on the underarm ball scandal on Monday 4 February at 10pm. Produced and narrated by Adam Zwar.

It is a joint Australian-NZ production. It will also air on Prime in NZ tomorrow (February 4) at 7.30pm, with a different narrator (I think).

Yes, Prime News anchor Eric Young will voice over in NZ.

I just looked at the TV guides and by the looks of it, Channel Seven are introducing a 30 minute preview show for each of the finals. The Final looks set to be played during the afternoon
SEMI FINAL 1- Pre Match 7:00-7:30, Match Coverage 7:30-11:00
SEMI FINAL 2- Pre Match 7:00-7:30, Match Coverage 7:30-11:00
GRAND FINAL- Pre Match 2:00-2:30, Match Coverage 2:30-6:00

The Underarm documentary got quite a lot of media coverage in NZ ahead of tonight’s premiere, but received little attention here in Australia apart from a couple of promos during Seven’s test and BBL coverage. I wonder how Aussie fans feel about the doco when it finally airs on TV.

That literally means the BBL final will be held in the afternoon of 17th February, not at night.

7mate will show the Australian Cricket Awards (formerly Allan Border Medal) next Monday night. Looks like Seven is the host broadcaster. The ceremony will also be shown live on Fox Cricket.

not good enough from C7 to be showing the awards on 7mate. Should be on the main channel.

Why? It’s not like the Brownlow where there’s a real fever pitch to find out who has won (and to a far lesser extent the NRL’s dally M), there’s no real interest in the outcome of the cricket awards.

Nine aired the awards night on 9Gem when they had the rights

It was also revealed during last night’s BBL telecast that 7TWO would broadcast the upcoming three-match women’s ODI series between Australia and New Zealand. 7TWO was chosen because 7mate is being used to show AFLW matches in some states.
Game 1: WACA Ground, Perth, Friday 22 February, 10.20am AWST (1.20pm AEDT)
Game 2: Karen Rolton Oval, Adelaide, Sunday 24 February, 10.20am ACST (10.50am AEDT)
Game 3: Junction Oval, Melbourne, Sunday 3 March, 10.50am AEDT

Nice work from Seven’s graphics in the BBL match today! Haha!

ABC’s Alister Nicholson commentated Strikers v Scorchers match at Adelaide Oval yesterday. Seems that Seven was impressed with Alister’s work during the recent test series against Sri Lanka that it is continuing his guest stint.

I’d replace James Brayshaw and Michael Slater with him.

This week’s BBL08 semi finals:
Thursday February 14: 1st semi final: Hobart Hurricanes v Melbourne Stars (Blundstone Arena) - telecast starts 7pm AEDT, play starts 7.30pm AEDT
Friday February 15: 2nd semi final: Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Sixers (Marvel Stadium) - telecast starts 7.30pm AEDT, play starts 7.40pm AEDT

Surely that’s not correct about the 2nd semi final only having 10 mins pre-game coverage!?!? Poor form ch7 if it is!

It’s because the 2nd semi final is on a Friday and Seven wants to show Better Homes and Gardens in NSW, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania from 7pm to 7.30pm before moving it to 7TWO. If you want a full pre-match you will have to tune into Fox Cricket.

I can only remember one time where Ten’s BBL coverage was sacrificed for another show and that was only the post game coverage of the BBL Grand Final last year when I’m a Celeb premiered. That is the only time I can remember. It is quite disgraceful what Seven are doing with the rights tbh.

On another note, I would think seeing Seven paid big money for this current deal, they would utlise them a little bit more.
Bigger Pre Match shows (maybe on Mate) like they do for the AFL Coverage, a Cricket show, Cricket Front Bar, a Roaming BT cricket segment.

What does annoy me is that they have no studio or set for the BBL coverage apart from on the ground. When they do, they have it from the commentary seats. It is quite annoying. Even when they have the studio, it looks very closed in and you wouldn’t think it was at the ground as there is no windows to see the ground. Even with the Allan Border Medal tonight, I would have thought they would put it on the main channel to showcase the awards ceremony but it is on 7mate. They also put their reality shows ahead of the Cricket which is very disappointing in my opinion. Apparently last night they went straight to Border Security instead of wrapping up the BBL game. My opinion is that Channel Seven have really messed up there cricket broadcast real bad.

What does a pre game programme achieve? Channel Nine managed the toss, weather wall, and team lists, witout anything more than 10 minutes for years.

Same goes for AFL. Do we really need an hour long preview of every match?
