No one outside of Melbourne would care about Tim’s retirement announcement at the grand final, especially at a Syd V Bris GF. Surely not?
Probably Darce then? Or BT scaling back?
Maybe it has nothing to do with the commentators?
I’ve just re-listened to the interview and this is what BT said:
“Something is going to happen at the end of the Grand Final regardless of who wins or loses that is going to affect either side, and it is going to be pretty emotional and an incredible surprise to everyone in the footy world.”
EDIT: If I had to take a wild guess, I reckon it could be Swans coach John Longmire announcing he is stepping down and handing over to Dean Cox.
Yeah but it is going to effect either side he said
I would not be overly surprised to see Seven offer an ‘ad-free’ live feed of the Grand Final via 7Plus for a one-off payment in future years (if the fine print of their rights deal allows for them to offer such a thing).
They did something similar a few years ago with the Tennis and Olympics if I recall correctly.
I was going to suggest Bruce McAvaney announcing his retirement (completely), like when he shook Dennis Cometti’s hand immediately following the 2016 GF on-air, which would’ve been a touching, fitting send off, also hence his recent finals appearances as a ‘last hoorah’
However that was until I saw your comment about Caroline Wilson’s tip for 2025, so unlikely I guess…

I think the special post-match emotional event will be the awarding of the inaugural Ron Barassi Medal to the premiership captain. They will probably get some of the late Barassi’s relatives to do the presentation.
I hope so. Bruce is a legend
Isn’t that misleading? It says ‘to call lions swans decider’ when he’s just hosting
As well, a typo where it says ‘calls’.
So yeah, false advertising.
Good morning. Let this 12 hour marathon begin.
Ah yes the good old Ten AFL graphics of the early 2000s. No frills, no fuss, and “The Holy Grail” on endless repeat.
Bec Maddern forgetting that it is the Grand Final Brunch not Grand Final Breakfast
