Abbey Way makes her AFLW debut tonight, hosting Seven’s coverage of the season opener between Richmond and Carlton. Abbey Holmes returns as expert commentator alongside callers Jason Bennett and Nigel Carmody, with Jacqueline Felgate as boundary reporter.
No doubt that’ll be the case particularly for games such as Swans vs Giants in Sydney, Lions vs Suns in South East Queensland (never say Brisbane when referring to TV in that market!) and of course, key finals matches with the local teams.
That’s (nearly) the same graphics used in the men’s season.
During women’s matches the scoreboard doesn’t flip horizontally after the siren sounds.
Is McGuire Media producing the coverage? I recall they were doing the VFL and AFLW on Seven in previous years.
Might explain the similar but slightly different graphics compared with the AFL coverage.
Team logos look good although I wish they added colour to the white backgrounds! It just looks so plain!
I know it’s similar to their AFL graphics but in both instances I really, really hate that gloss
Still no promo about watching aflw on both 7hd and mate hd.
Isn’t that the whole point?
If the new deal is agreed to, it would be a two-year extension until 2024 with likely the same split of matches between Foxtel and Seven. However:
While there is desire to get a deal done, sources said there is still some jockeying over what increase in price would come from an extension and who would be paying the inflation increase, given the rising value and importance of digital rights.
Why would they want to extend a shitty simulcast deal. Don’t these media companies want exclusivity and streaming rights to themselves?
I‘m sure they’d love it. But they can’t meet sports- bodies cash demands on their own.
Either the sports bodies reduce their asking price or the FTA broadcasters have to stump up more.
It looks like Seven will have to stump up more cash just to get streaming rights to SOME matches each week.
AFLW match between West Coast V Fremantle will be televised by Seven this Saturday. The men’s clashes between these two sides has never been covered by Seven in this era of their rights deal, 2007 to now.
It’s on 7mate in Melbourne so obviously Seven thinks movies will rate higher.
I was referring more to the fact that the Seven Network is covering the Derby rather than Fox Footy. Rare these days to see two non Victorian teams on Free To Air.
The past four matches between the Sydney Swans and Adelaide Crows (including a 2016 final at the SCG) have been covered by Seven. Likewise, four of the past five matches between Adelaide and GWS (also including one final in 2017) was also covered by Seven.
There’ll also be a FTA Showdown in round two of the men’s season this year.
