The 2020 AFL fixture was released this morning.
The Grand Final rematch between Richmond and GWS will take place in Round 7 on Saturday afternoon and will be a Fox Footy production.
I will post my thoughts a bit later, but here are the Friday night matches that will occur during and after Tokyo Olympics.
July 24: Port Adelaide v Hawthorn (opening ceremony night)
July 31: Adelaide v Richmond
August 7: Geelong v GWS
August 14: West Coast v Collingwood
Now that the men’s fixture has been released, here’s the FTA Host telecast breakdown for each club (as opposed to FTA Games as that varies from state to state as we know) with Round 23 as usual to be determined. Embarrassing for the Suns to have no game hosted by Seven at least until the final round of home and away season.
Ditto for the Dockers to have just 1 game in R22, especially when we have to put up with boring Sydney and the underwhelming Melbourne 3 times in the so called “Prime Time” slots.
Im a Suns member and I am absolutely pissed off with the AFL and Channel Seven. This is the second straight year that the AFL and Channel Seven have denied us national FTA exposure.
I understand where we are at and I am fine and fully understand that we are not in the position to be on Thursday and Friday night footy but seriously, we should at least get one match on Channel Seven who are the national broadcaster of the AFL.
We have only had 1 match in the past three seasons (1.5%) on Channel Seven. We are a small club I know- how are we suppose to grow as a club and gain new sponsors/supporters when we are hardly given exposure on the national fta broadcaster?
Channel Seven is the national broadcaster for FTA and as the AFL is a national competition, we should at least at the bare min be given at least one match per season- every club deserves at least one match.
I am so annoyed and furious with this decision and feel that fans outside Queensland have been cheated on by the AFL/Channel Seven once again.
I wonder how much consultation with Seven and Foxtel happens before the AFL finalise it?
If Gold Coast make the finals it will be on 7.
Dockers should have got more than one game on FTA this year.
24 July 2020 Port Adelaide v Hawthorn match will more likely to be shunted to 7mate whilst the Opening Ceremony of the 2020 Summer Olympics will be on 7HD.
I believe that WAFL, SANFL and VFL matches will not be shown on the SEven Network. This was the case for Rio 2016 Games, and the Gold COast 2018 Games.
yet, all 22 games the Suns play will be shown on FTA in Queensland (almost all of them Live too) - so what’s the complaint here, unless you dont live in QLD?
It’s worth noting that the first three games will begin at 7:20pm eastern - 30mins earlier than the usual FNF start time of 7:50pm eastern (the last game being a West Coast home game is a 8:10pm eastern/6:10pm local start)
I live in Melbourne
It’s because Better Homes and Gardens, which normally airs at 7pm Fridays, will take a three week break during the Tokyo Olympics, returning on August 14, thus Seven is able to convince the AFL to start the three Friday night matches early.
Otherway around.
Ch7 asks the AFL for FNF to start as late as possible because it rates better.
With the olympics being on, FNF will be on 7mate so less ratings, less need for it to start later.
edit: To add to my comment, FNF used to be on 30/60min delay back in the 2007-2011 broadcast deal to allow for a 7.40pm start time, but for BH+G to air 7.30 to 8.30 (from memory)
ROund 23 is a floating fixture round. One game at the MCG during Round 23 (Collingwood v GCS). The reasons why there will be only one game at the MCG during the round may got to do with the Bledisloe Cup game to be played in Melbourne, though nothing has been finalised by Rugby Australia.
The Saturday twilight timeslot on Saturday, April 18 is vacant, to allow for the possibility of AFLW Grand Final to be scheduled there.
I think that AFLW GF 2020 will be played in Marvel Stadium during the twilight timeslot. This is to accommodate for the Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions match to be played during the night.
Pretty sure the AFLW GF will be hosted by the highest seed grand finalist
If a Victorian team finished off with the most points in terms of greater percentage, it will certainly be played at Marvel Stadium.
If Gold Coast Suns make it to the Grand Final, then it’s likely that the team will be hosting at Metricon Stadium, given that there is an AFL match between Gold COast v Melbourne on that day.
If West Coast or Fremantle host the GF, then it’s likely that the team will be playing at Optus Stadium.
More likely to be Princes Park.
