I think kids would be able to watch it… I think the talk is a twilight not a night. Start around 3:50 or something. I don’t think kids go to bed at 4pm.
Could Seven just air the “post match talk/entertainment” segments into primetime rather than moving it into 7mate? That could possibly increase some of the prime-time shares, even if it is only by a small margin?
Just before the pre game entertainment started yesterday the countdown to first bounce clock came on after a break showing 6 hours, needless to say it didn’t last long
Look, the ratings yesterday were a result of the match being a blowout. It the match was a closer encounter then the ratings would have been much more stronger.
Also if Collingwood were playing instead of GWS, the audience would have been much higher as well.
Lowest rated GF ever in the Melbourne market I believe…
Interesting you say that because some of the largest TV audiences have involved Sydney (a sydney team). Whereas some of the lower TV audience have involved two Victorian teams. I don’t think it has anything to do with the two teams but rather that the game was probably over by half time.
To be expected when its the lowest national TV audience since 1993.
Also, GWS Giants have a very small membership base (approxminately 30k members), whereas Richmond have a much bigger membership base of 104k.
Last year’s GF (West Coast Eagles v Collingwood) had 2.601 million metro viewers, but this year, the ratings for Richmond v GWS have dropped by approximately 15%.
It also helps when the game is still in the balance in the last minute
Membership does not equate to ratings. 2017 Adelaide and Richmond had 2 of the top 7 highest memberships. However, in 2016 Western Bulldogs had a much lower membership number than both those clubs and Sydney was slightly higher than Adelaide. The game in 2016 rated much higher than 2017. Membership numbers equate for jack. Its the game that matters.
But what I’m saying is back in 2017, Adelaide vs Richmond has 2.7 million viewers metro wide. Last year, West Coast Eagles v Collingwood dropped to 2.6 million. I don’t know why numbers have dropped from 2017 to 2018, given that west coast v Collingwood was a close match.
Maybe because Collingwood and West Coast aren’t popular teams outside their member? Richmond was a fairytale Grand Final? That is my point exactly membership numbers mean nothing. West Coast and Collingwood have/had larger fan bases than Richmond and Adelaide in 2017 but rated less.
2018 GF has 100,022 people attending the match-1 more than the previous GF. But I think West Coast and collingwood are a popular Afl team in The league.
Got evidence to back that up pal? I think the GWS fan would have been turning off the tv during the match after the flogging Richmond gave em.
Lasted all of 2 seconds. On the ball which you have to expect on such a big day and production to get it back down so quickly.
Yeah. Some people in the 2nd half have stopped watching the game and knew that Richmond would win the flag.
Also, the 2019 AFL Grand Final: Richmond v GWS was down by 404k viewers from last year’s GF (West Coast Eagles v Collingwood), but still topped the Number 1 program for the ratings year. This surpassed the State of Origin Game 1: NSW v QLD (Suncorp Stadium) by 18-19k viewers.
Not even sure this is wholly true anymore, as last year was a decade low, even though it was a good game and nail biting finish (except the first quarter).
I find it very strange how 10 AFL grand Finals rated higher than 7 AFL.
Seriously? 10 were just very lucky. (See what Sully did there )
Lions back-to-back-back (2002 and 2003), Port Adelaide’s first flag (2004), Sydney Swans/South Melbourne’s first premiership in over 70 years (biggest drought), West Coast’s revenge (2006), Geelong’s first flag in 40 years (2007), thriller in 2009. Only 2011 wasn’t very memorable. All these years mentioned are famous, especially the nail biters of 2005/2006 with some famous commentary to match from Stephen Quartermain and Anthony Hudson, these two years also the ratings record holders (of any AFL or NRL game ever). 2000s also got NSW and QLD right on board after 10+ years of building.
however it’s also the 1st weekend of Day Light Savings, so if they start the game at 6:45pm it’s twilight heading into nighttime.
I recall for a few years NRL did force Nine to go for a 6:15pm kick off a few years (or have I got that wrong? was it not around 2011/2???) but that hurt the network since “news” would of got them more ratings …
This is why the NRL need to change FTA network in the next broadcast deal, Nine have totally messed up.
Either way it never bothered me as to the time change, I remember watching NSWRFL GF back on Seven from 1977 through to 1983, then on Ten from 1984 through to 1991 and it’s been with Nine ever since (including the two GF in 1997)
