No surprises there - Seven always chooses to replay this match in Sydney due to the significance behind the result (the Swans winning their first flag in 72 years in one of the all-time classics).

I remember the first time Seven ran this match (was originally televised by 10), it was the day before the Swans won another flag just seven years later.

Showing the draw?

Why would they show a Collingwood loss?

A return of the COVID-shutdown era filler production.

Mitch Cleary has told Herald Sun’s Time On that he will succeed Tom Browne as Seven’s chief AFL reporter.

My guess is that they are showing this because of the two teams playing on Saturday?

A lot of these were originally Ten broadcasts

Much like South Melbourne, there will still be quite a few old Fitzroy fans down south who still follow the Lions, even if it has been 25 years since the merger

as well as the ABC (anyone but Collingwood) brigade I guess

but yes, I suspect “last time they played in a GF” is likely. Part of me wonders why they would bother splitting it by state for something that runs overnight; it’s not exactly the Footy Marathon of old needless to say (not to say Fox won’t do that though).

I saw a promo for the Grand Final on Seven a short while ago…

It stated the game was “for the first time … on 7Plus”.

Wasn’t it on 7Plus last year, albeit with limited availability and a lot of complaints? So I’m not sure why they’ve made that statement this time…?

Technically, yes. Officially, no.

Due to:

A loophole, it was available on ‘connected TVs’ (7Plus built into smart TVs or Fetch or Play Station, etc), not the 7Plus platform (mobile website/app and casting) proper.

A result of the current (or prior to COVID) broadcast agreement, where Telstra (via Foxtel) held the digital rights exclusively. Brownlow was the same since 2017.

This time I’m pretty sure it’s available on all devices while before it only tv etc.

So technically it’s the first time ever it’s on 7+ for all

Seven will take an unchanged line-up into this year’s grand final broadcast, with James Brayshaw and Brian Taylor leading the commentary team for the free-to-air broadcaster.

Hamish McLachlan will host the coverage, with Hawthorn premiership greats Luke Hodge and Shaun Burgoyne and AFLW flag-winning champion Daisy Pearce among the special commentary team, and Abbey Holmes providing commentary from the boundary.

Luke Darcy missed the cut, but will feature earlier in the day, along with Nathan Jones, Leigh Matthews, Jobe Watson and Chris Johnson, as well as Supercars host and current driver Jack Perkins and NBA legend Scottie Pippen for the 2023 Grand Final Countdown from 10.30am.

Matthew Richardson has been tasked with interviewing rock stars KISS, who will provide the pre-match entertainment.

So:

Countdown: Luke Darcy hosting with Nathan Jones, Leigh Matthews, Jobe Watson, Chris Johnson, Jack Perkins (presumably promoting the upcoming Bathurst coverage) and Scottie Pippen (appearing on behalf of the NBL who he is out here promoting the start of the season for)
Match Coverage: Hamish McLachlan hosting with Luke Hodge, Shaun Burgoyne, Daisy Pearce and probably Brian Taylor
Match Calling: James Brayshaw and Brian Taylor commentating with Hodge, Burgoyne and Pearce with Abbey Holmes on the boundary

Have they delayed the start? Isn’t the traditional GF start time 2:00 pm?

Has been 2.30pm for the grand final for ages now - at least since 2001 by the looks of it, and certainly since 2002 when Ten took them over. In fact during the nineties it was creeping closer to 3pm; many of the late-90s finals started at 2.45.

They can’t exactly be too late now though, especially with the possibility of extra time on the day (no replays now, after all), plus the promise of the free after-match entertainment at 6pm that’s been around for several years now (Covid aside).

Earlier weeks of the finals also used to be 2.30 in daytime instead of 2.10 for a good while (with coverage winding up at 5.30), but of course the traditional 2pm slot is more or less dead now.

Oh I didn’t know that, I thought the Grand Final was the only finals game that was replayed if a draw at full time

Think the Ten GF’s from the 02-06 rights deal were 2:40 and reverted to 2:30 in 2007.

2001 was definitely 2:30. Only remember these things as I’m a lions fan :p.

Talking Finals started at 9.23pm tonight. MKR finished in Melbourne at 9.18pm followed by a newsbreak. Then for some reason Seven played a 3-minute highlights of the 2022 and 2023 AFL seasons before another short ad break, then Talking Finals started.

The panel will cross to the homes of Steele Sidebottom (Collingwood) and Harris Andrews (Brisbane) tonight.

Yes it was very weird, it read “we apologise for this break in transmission, back to the game shortly” and it was only 2022 highlights
