Seven AFL Coverage

Do we know which games of the final round is on 7? I assume Friday, Saturday & 2x Sunday. But I think 2x Friday would be better since it’s 1 v 2 & 5 v 7 - loser of this may miss finals.

Could just be freelancing though.

According to online guides, Seven will show Hawthorn v North Melbourne on Friday, and Geelong v Melbourne on Saturday night.

Edit:

And based on next week’s schedule posted by TVCynic this morning, Melbourne viewers will also get Collingwood v Brisbane and St Kilda v Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

I don’t understand why the camera set up at Frankston’s Kinetic Stadium changes from time to time.

In last night’s match between Hawthorn and North Melbourne, the main camera faces north towards Frankston CBD, with Port Phillip Bay on the left of screen.

In some other matches, the main camera faces south towards the main grandstand.

They change it at Geelong sometimes (I think to show the crowd) but I think for this it’s because of where the centre circle stuff is painted.

You can see both are showing the same painted stuff (NAB sponsorship & AFLW season marking). So maybe it’s because of the painted stuff

When they changed the Geelong stuff the painted markings are swapped, but again for this it’s showing the correctly.

It just pains me watching AFLW that a) no one can ever get the camera on the freaking centre circle (SCG has the same issue tbf) and b) why they can never paint the logos 3d. Like nobody can see that nab logo.

Also, why do every broadcaster put a pink filter on Swans home games? (Men or Women, SCG or otherwise)

AFLW website indicates coverage of Finals games will be shown in one-hour delay in regional QLD.

Is there a reason for that?

I think the AFLW website is incorrect. The finals will be shown live in regional QLD according to online guides.

Jones says Seven is in “constant dialogue” with the league and believes it is only a matter of time before the grand final is moved to a twilight slot.

When Melbourne was locked down during the COVID years, the grand final started at 6.30pm AEST when it was held at the Gabba, and 5.15pm AWST when it was in Perth.

And while both those grand finals were considered to be a raging success, traditionalists believe the day slot is better, arguing it is more family friendly and helps people of an older demographic attend the game live, and also families with young children.

But Jones says TV ratings would significantly improve with a later start.

Fans who want it changed also argue that the spectacle would be way superior at night, particularly for the entertainment which is usually accompanied by pyrotechnics.

“I can’t speak for (the AFL but) what I can say is that we have constant dialogue with them,” Jones told SEN.

“Clearly we’d love a night grand final. I think we’re headed towards a twilight grand final, hopefully.”

Clearly terrified after NRL GF topping AFL’s equivalent for the first time in a decade.

I bet if the status quo continued, this wouldn’t have come up.

Meanwhile NRL trying to push for a daytime GF. Maybe do a swap deal and that would do?

On SEN it was confirmed that 7 will have a pre season documentary with the Saints

Not 7 related but according to Sam Edmunds that there might be some curve balls with the AFL fixture

It (AFL GF start time) has been discussed in the media around this time of year every single year since COVID.

And it begin again at the start of the season when the AFL decides to lock in the timeslot. It’s always a regular occurrence. Once at the end of the season before the fixture is released and once before the season starts.

Herald Sun reports this afternoon that the 2026 AFL fixture is expected to be released next Thursday, November 13.

AFL 2026 fixture whispers: Dons set to be dumped from prime time, Sunday night football role could expand

The AFL will release its fixture next week with Essendon set to take a prime time back seat and Channel 7 adamant Thursday night football is going nowhere.

The Bombers ended up taking part in 13 Thursday or Friday night clashes and a Wednesday night round 24 clash in a move that backfired on the AFL.

Seven ended up shunning one of those round 24 prime time clashes in an indication that Essendon was a ratings let-down, with the AFL sure to relegate the Dons from prime time next season.

St Kilda has requested a Sunday twilight fixture against Collingwood in the hours following the Formula One race at Albert Park.

It would wrap up Opening Round for 2026, following Sydney, GWS Giants, Brisbane and Gold Coast hosting matches on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The clash, expected to be held at the MCG, would be on the same day as the Melbourne Grand Prix on March 8.

With the Matildas vs South Korea Asian Cup match taking place in Sydney on that day, it means there would be no potential clash with the GWS match which I assume will be on the Saturday.

I think Opening Round will be Brisbane on the Thursday night (in which the Lions would unfurl their flag), Sydney on Friday night, then Gold Coast/GWS on Saturday evening and then the Saints-Pies match on Sunday evening.

If the Pies v Saints is Sunday night then there could be a game on Sunday arvo that’s on 7.

Lions Thursday on 7

Swans (vs potentially Blues) Friday on 7

Suns (vs potentially Dees) Saturday FOX

Giants Sunday 3:15 on 7

Pies v Saints MCG Sunday 7:20 on 7

“You look at someone like Jasmine Fleming at Hawthorn or Sophie McKay from Carlton they’re fearless and thrive under pressure. Finals bring out the best in players like that.

“It’s the big-stage performers who really stand up in finals. You think of Jasmine Garner, Ash Riddell, Kate Hore and Courtney Hodder; they’ve all had incredible seasons and know what it takes to lift their teams when it matters most,” she said.

“It’s hard to look past North Melbourne. They’ve been a powerhouse since they entered the competition and they’re showing no signs of slowing down now. With a home crowd cheering them on at Ikon Park and the longest winning streak in AFL/AFLW history, they have truly earned the top of the table spot.”
