Seven AFL Coverage

Good question; it’s been used on every ch 7 match shown on 7 except for a couple of niche venues e.g. Darwin; those used the previous AFL-logo transition for whatever reason.

lol. My bad. Must never have noticed on the games I’ve watched.

all good. not sure if relevant, but that transition is only on the og broadcasts as well; the replays on the AFL website use a generic wipe in similar style.

Yes 7 Perth team doing the call.
Any Queenslanders watching can confirm if they are getting the 7 Perth broadcast

7 seem to have pivoted from “WA biased calls of Perth matches” to “Ch7 call of Perth matches”.
Which is fine, I just find it odd because Fox always has a local team there, but I understand 7West have a vested interest in WA.

Should mention that there is no score during adverts or breaks for this and similar coverage; a feature that is missed when you become used to it.

I noticed there was no score during ads on Seven’s AFLW coverage last night.

I don’t think it was ever called biased calls. Just WA gets their own broadcast for home games when possible. With it being a WA based commentary team it was all either Freo or Eagles past players as the analysts

They were specifically promoted as “parochial call[s]” back in March

WA footy fans will finally hear the voices they know and trust with a parochial call on the teams we love so much

They have never bias
Can’t say the same about those in Victoria

After all the backlash and commentary about 7 having the dead rubber as the national match. That was more entertaining than the top 4 clash

Parochial where possible but it’s a bit hard when it’s going to air on 7 QLD too. In most other occasions this year I’m guessing it has been 7 WA exclusive.

I think it was definitely later in the season. R17, R22 & R23 so far.

I feel like 7 would have no choice but to offer their own coverage of Fox games on their network next year; mainly because Fox’s AFL coverage has too much of their own branding. Anytime i watch a lions game up here on 7 in QLD, i’m constantly seeing microphones with Fox branding’s, advertisements for Fox’s AFL programs and even the scoreboard has a lot of advertisement for Fox related AFL shows. It’s simply too big to ignore. 7 can easily call these games from a studio in Melbourne or even Perth, and if a QLD team is playing, they can send Hodge to cover it on the grounds (like Lynch does on Fox footy) and they can do the same with the other states as well.

I don’t think they have enough AFL people to do every local game especially since some of their callers & analyst have radio & other commitments etc.

I can see them continue to have the 7WA call broadcast in the local markets (except super Saturday until R9 in SA & R11 in NSW + QLD). And possibly expanding to a 7SA call when there’s a game in SA. But definitely not every local game. That’s too expensive and too much for them to do.

Highly unlikely to happen given most of their local team are tied up to radio commitments.

Seven’s AFL game this afternoon in Sydney and Brisbane was a standard Fox relay.

That’s the smart play. For the audience you are getting. Are really going to get your own crew to do the game just in case the small chance a Fox logo appears on the screen.
