Seven AFL Coverage

Here’s what it looks like.

This is an odd statement, given the game is no longer being billed as the “E.J. Whitten Legends Match” as was previously the case.

Kids call on a Thursday night. Not the best decision

On Wide World of Sports on 3AW this evening, Mitch Cleary told Jimmy Bartel that the AFL is expected to reveal the fixture for Round 24 in the next 48 hours. Mitch believed there would be a Sunday night match - either Brisbane v Hawthorn or Fremantle v Western Bulldogs. The round would conclude with Gold Coast v Essendon on Wednesday night, August 27.

I thought Mitch was with MMM for radio

Mitch appears on the show as a Seven journalist.

Jon Ralph saying that Power v Suns will be Friday night - Hinckley’s final game & Powers preference. 7 might not be happy with that & hence why they are probably looking at wanting Sunday night marquee match.

I thought the idea of Thursday double header would work well for all broadcasters since they get the flop matches out the way & then get a good game for Friday Night and even a top 8 defining match Sunday too

Brisbane V Hawthorn will be 100% a Sunday night game then. That’s the biggest game of the round, and it has the potential for the highest ratings.

My guess is a Friday night double header with Collingwood v Melbourne being the Seven produced game (whilst SA & QLD get Port Adel & Gold Coast).

My prediction:

Thu: Ess v Carl (maybe on 7 if they have not exceeded their quota)
Fri: Coll v Melb (7) + PA v GC
Sat: NM v Adel, Rich v Geel, WCE v Syd
Sun: GWS V Stk, WB v Freo, BL v Haw (7)
Wed: GC v Ess (7)

7 will probably dump the meaningless GC Vs ESS game on wednesday for Sunday night. Let’s be honest, no one wants to see that.

I think Seven picked up this game because they were supposed to air the Brisbane Lions vs Geelong Cats season opener, which got moved to a Saturday night in round three and therefore became a Foxtel exclusive match.

They could have just aired it on the Saturday night given it was their game to begin with. What were they thinking swapping that for GC VS Essendon?

Fox had exclusive super Saturday and wouldn’t give it up. So 7 had to settle for the Fox game from opening round as their game.

I think 7 would have wanted a double Thursday night & then Lions v Hawks as the Friday night. Have the Bulldogs v Dockers which could decide the top 8 as the Sunday night - last year Dockers v Power which decided the top 8 had Fox footy’s highest rated H&A until last Saturday night

That would have given them 2 big matches. But looks like they won’t get that.

Yuck

Abbey Holmes has responded to the online backlash she received after announcing she would be returning to work seven weeks after giving birth.

Speaking exclusively to 7NEWS.com.au, Holmes said her decision to come back was largely due to how well Brax was doing.

“I think that if he didn’t take a bottle or was really unsettled and only slept on me, or whatever it might have been, then I certainly would have been hamstrung and certainly not come back seven weeks after having him,” she said.

Holmes said while most of the comments she received were supportive, a small minority of people felt they had the right to tell her how she should be juggling motherhood and a career.

She said she loves her job and being busy and that there was no reason why the goals of starting a family and chasing a career couldn’t be achieved at the same time.
