Saw Seven’s first promo for the 2022 AFL season during Winter Olympics telecast tonight, It features Daisy Pearce, Matthew Richardson, Brian Taylor, Luke Hodge, Erin Phillips and voiceover by Hamish McLachlan at the end. The first part of the promo asked fans where they were during those special moments in footy, the second part asked them what they would want to see this year.
I did see one last week in-program during the Winter Olympics, more like a teaser, with I think it was every team having a fan reminisce about a famous victory with Seven’s historical tapes in the background, as well as a brief casual dressed shot of BT, Richo among others at their homes.
Herald Sun reporting that Wayne Carey has been axed from Friday nights and will be replaced by Daisy Pearce. Carey will move to Saturdays.
Is Carey replacing either Cameron Ling or Matthew Richardson on Saturday nights?
The article doesn’t specify which one will have to make way, but does hint that there will be a rotation of commentators on various slots throughout the season.
Also mentioned is the flow-on effect for radio as Carey also works for Triple M. His roster there may have to change.
Carey and JB will probably end up doing the double on Saturdays (2pm from the studio and 7pm on 7).
JB didn’t call Saturday nights for 7 in 2021.
That’s because he was promoted to Thursdays/Fridays due to Bruce’s retirement.
Gotta love it how the media are reporting Daisy Pearce is replacing Wayne Carey… Well no, Daisy did Friday nights basically all last year & some of 2020 “along side” Carey. Carey’s simply just being moved aside/shafted or whatever you want to call it to a different role. Much the same to what they did with Leigh Matthews. Quiet happy with the move in this case TBH. Do wish they would include moving James Brayshaw back to Saturday Nights as part of the “refresh”. He is just not suited to Friday Nights! They need a quality caller back alongside BT to balance the “blokey-humour” with a bit of class.
Is Tim lane available
I’m sure he is when not on radio. But he’s 70 now and no doubt ready for retirement soon.
Can almost guarantee 7 will persist with the Brian Taylor & James Brayshaw combo for many years to come
Maybe they can have Alister Nicolson for footy? He has had a big role for 7 with the olympics, Winter Olympics, WBBL, BBL & also some Test cricket.
So I don’t see why they can’t have him for AFL, maybe the the Sunday afternoon slot to begin with
Alister also calls the AFL on ABC Radio on weekend afternoons, so I am not sure if he can do the same for Seven.
They also have Jason Bennett too.
You would think TV especially the host broadcaster going globally around the world would take precedence though?
I’d rather Nicholson. Bennett goes on a wild tangent
I’d imagine he’ll go wherever his manager can get the best deal for him, I don’t think he’s been permanent at the ABC for a few months now, hopefully he returns for footy season, but he’d be a welcome addition to Seven.
