SEN (Radio)

What is the operating power of the Sydney and Melbourne stations? I live a short distance from Concord where I believe the Sydney stick is located, and it sounds pretty weak and tinny to me. If these frequencies don’t have any DAB spectrum attached, I doubt they’ll get much audience going forward!

If SEN Track isn’t already available via DAB+ in Melbourne, I’m sure it will be eventually.

As for Sydney, I’m pretty sure nothing will change with 1539AM (or 2CH 1170AM) until at least next Wednesday? Even then, it’ll probably take a while for SEN to make their mark in broadcasting here.

The Sydney transmitter is the former UNSW site at Concord West in Bicentennial Park. The mast and transmitter building has always looked rundown, unless they have updated it in the past few years as I haven’t been there for about five years.

Is 1593 receivable by most car radios? I don’t think mine goes that high.

All standed AM radios should go to 1602

SEN Track is still available on DAB+

SEN Track’s on 1593am in Melbourne now, when did it start Broadcasting on that Frequency? I say 11a.m.

And will continue to be given to move of AM Frequencies, also on the SEN App.

How strong is the 1593 Frequency compared to the Mornington Peninsula based 1377???

As I mentioned previously in the Narrowcast thread:

One thing I did notice in the brief listen - do SEN Track actually cover much actual racing? It was all just talk about horses - do they just not have enough rights to have the near wall to wall coverage?

Flipped over right now - Radio TAB and RSN are both doing live racing, or are talking between races, while SEN Track is seemingly doing talkback.

“Have you had a horse named after you” being the call in discussion topic, that’s I suppose very Narrowcast, but who’d be choosing that over racing coverage? Or is the idea you watch the TV on mute and listen to their chatter about horse racing?

I really wonder how 3 racing stations can exist in a market. Makes no sense.

Certainly easier to receive for me and I’m in the South East

I sometimes wonder how even one can survive, particularly in the regional markets where they are often on commercial licences too.

Bizarre I really don’t get it. Like in Sydney , talking about rugby league rated better than calling it? Like 2ue in the 90s when it lost its right to call rugby league. Ray got a big head after that. They smashed Jon Harker on GB in the ratings just talking league and jibber. Surely it’s not the same with horse racing.

I have been checking it out briefly on my drive home in the afternoons, just out of curiosity. Actual race calls seem to be very thin. Maybe they have more earlier in the day?

SEN Track have 30 seconds on 3MP directing audiences to their new spot on 1593. No mention of being available on digital.

Don’t think many audience would have been listening to SEN Track, it’s essentially an ego project for Hutch with designs on taking over all sport licenses in Aust.

Wonder if 1593 has pointer ads for Rete Italia to digital?

Just tested 1593 in the city and it has a stronger and clearer signal than 1377.
