I was specifically referring to the commercial AM to FM conversions in the early 1990s in the metro areas, as the comment I was replying to referenced that.
Yes, but I donât think they actually happened like that, Sydney 1107 went to SBS not ABC, Melbourne I think did work out as the government wanted, not sure about Adelaide & Perth, Brisbane only 4BK converted & 1296 went to 4RPH did any others convert in Brisbane I canât think of another one?
As stated in the article, there were no bids for conversion in Sydney, the Governments plan didnât work & I believe was changed?
I also think part of 2WSâs deal was a Sydney wide FM licence from the Artarmon/Willoughby area, not just a West Sydney licence conversion, & after these changes, Sydney bids & conversions came in, had of 2WS not been granted a Sydney wide FM licence I donât think they wouldâve bid for FM conversion?
Thatâs also why I believe there was no precedence set, it didnât work 1st time around, so was dropped for subsequent tries.

Itâs a shame that people who made SEN such as Mark Fine, Matt Grandland, Tony Schubeci and Graham Smokey Dawson all got the sack because of big ego Hutchy
Impressive, looks great @littlegezzybear
What will happen to Rete Italia now?
Maybe they will go fully on-line?
I suspect thatâs what will happen over time.
To put it crudely, many of their core listeners/1st generation Italian migrants (from 40âs to 60âs era etc) must be slowly passing on with a correspondingly reduced listener-ship base & to reduce costs theyâll probably see if SEN or others make any offers for their other active & non activated radio licences.
Theyâll still have Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Shepparton & Wangaratta MW narrowcast licences if theyâre all still on air(?) after July 1st.
Can Warrnambool get an MW Narrowcast Licence for SEN Track despite 1602 being used by the ABC? Probably their Best Bet is either 1620 or 1629?
âAFL this weekendâ being promoted today on Spirit 621 Southwest. AFLNation to be heard for the first time on 621.
Doesnât sound like they will have the full fixture. Collingwood Richmond not on tonight, only promoting Saturday nights West Coast Eagles game. Havenât heard a promo for Saturday afternoons Fremantle Dockers game as yet.
A sign of whatâs to come for 1170 in Sydney.
SENâs live sport guide (link) has Spirit taking the following Round 2 games:
Thursday 11th June: Collingwood v Richmond (5-8:30pm)
Friday 12th June: Geelong v Hawthorn (4-9pm)
Saturday 13th June: Brisbane Lions v Fremantle (11am-2:20pm), Gold Coast Suns v West Coast Eagles (4:30-8:30pm)
No Sunday matches, and the West Coast game is the âEagles Radioâ call (Tim Gossage, Paul Hasleby)
This the the same graphic being use on Spirit 621 Facebook wall. Listing just 1 game this weekend in 621. Maybe a soft launch into sports, see what eventuates this weekend.
Pity they donât mention that all times are in EST. Or are they?
Yes all times are EST.
During Port Adelaideâs post-match press conference tonight after their big win over Adelaide, I noticed Michaelangelo Rucci (chief AFL writer at The Advertiser) was wearing a SEN 1629 jacket. So is he working for SEN as well?
One of the two drive hosts, has been since the stationâs launch
So might this mean Pacific Star are confidently giving up on the 3MP licence because (i) they are focusing on establishing a second, albiet narrowcasting format focused on horse racing. (ii) they can easily operate a compliant format on 1593 kHz in Melbourne and (iii) are set to take over that frequency now used by Rete Italia?
Does seem odd they have just refined what goes to air on 1377 AM (now dedicated to SEN Track) only to just as quickly sell the frequency
I think long term a collaboration with RSN is on the cards. They donât need 927, 1116 and 1377. Hence 1377 is being sold off. Expect RSN to be re-branded as SEN Track within 2 years.
Would other sports be heard on Brisbaneâs new 1053 SEN?
