Tradies Hour is still on Tuesday to Friday currently. They cover the NFL on Monday mornings.
Australian Open 2024 starts today. SEN will have live coverage of both day and night sessions across most of its network.
At least it was on dab last night. I wonder if the test match will be on sentrack? I guess narrowcast is ok to put on sports like international cricket?
SEN 1116 in Melbourne is turning 20 tomorrow.
And the major news story that day was the death of 3AWâs David Hookes.
Garry Lyon and Tim Watson special guests on their own showâŚ.
SEN1170 in Sydney is hoping to turn 20 ⌠listeners on in the current survey
Marko and the Ox coming back after the nature of their departure is something though. As is Finey - if only he was back for good
And SEN kinda dropped the ball that day as well.
Hookesyâs death was reported as breaking news a little after 7pm on 3AW, while SEN had a one hour recorded interview on at that time - Tim Watson interviewing Kevin Sheedy.
Overnight show seems boned. Not on tonight, but the EPL coverage is on tomorrow night.
tbf though it was literally SENâs first day.
Probably isnât on during the Aus Open as resources are elsewhere.
Enjoyed the SEN breakfast show podcast for that morning. Worth a listen, and great hearing Finey and Ox + Marko feature well.
I had no idea how instrumental Garry Lyon was with the initial establishment of the station either. Very interesting Melbourne radio history.
But remember the old saying⌠âYou donât get a second chance to make a first impressionâ.
Surely, even if they didnât break into that programming, some producer (who would have been there preparing for the next program) could have recorded a 30 second spot and slid it into an ad break with the news and say more details coming up at eight?

fair point
According to talk from hosts and guests during the 20th year birthday celebrations, they did report on Hookes initially being in hospital in a critical condition during the very first breakfast show on SEN on that day.
Fair enough, they may have missed his death and were beaten by an established newsroom at 3AW, but itâs not liked they missed the news altogether.

yes, that they did. I was listening that morning.
Agreed, I listened to SEN the whole day and they were constantly discussing David Hookes as was 3AW.

Like the sponsorship spot on a certain community radio station.
