That’s the important phrase to keep in mind. Surely in the medium-long term future (probably after the sale of 1539AM is finalised), 1170AM will be SEN Sydney?
I suspect the answer is probably obvious, but what’s with all these competing racing broadcasters (on both TV and radio) in Australia?

While Pacific Star Network mostly operates the SEN sports stations, it also has a music station in Perth and it is believed it intends to operate 2CH as a music format for the forseeable future.
Probably meant to be referring to their recently acquired Bunbury station on 621AM, as they only have a HPON licence in Perth on 657AM, which carries SENTrack.
I’ve been listening to 621 Bunbury. No changes to the format so far. Wonder if the 2CH purchase could create some synergies between the two stations with music formats and selected sports content rather than changing to a full blown SEN format.
If SEN we’re entering/keeping a music network then I’m sure they would’ve also kept 3MP as a music station to accompany 2CH and 6EL.
Now there’s a nice music network opportunity to sell to Capital Radio Network.
What’s Next for SEN? acquire 4KQ’s 693am Frequency and SENQ comes on the air???

ARN could convert 4KQ to FM and pass off the 693 kHz frequency.

The ACMA database shows they own both, with the licences starting “The licensee has agreed to accept and manage any adjacent channel interference” from the adjacent licence. They are about 32 kms from each other, according to Google maps. Would this be a problem?
No they can’t, there’s no FM licences available unless they buy out a competitor or change 97.3, which isn’t going to happen.

@Brianc68 SEN bought/announced an agreement to acquire the Gumnut Nominees licences in mid 2019, Vision Christian had a contract to broadcast for 18 - 24 mths, perfect timing until SEN is ready for their own program.
Interesting that SEN can convince Gumnutt/Rete Italia to relinquish their broadcasts in Melbourne on 1593. It’s licensed for 80km radius. The Italians are seemingly reducing their presence.
Will 3AW newsreader Tony Tardio be heard on Fridays in Melbourne reading news in Italian in the morning and English in the afternoon?
Yet ACMA has not offered any allocations to convert and if it’s ever going to happen, the process is delayed whilst the licensees bicker about reallocation.

The 1620am Frequency is SEN SA for Adelaide’s Northern Suburbs and Gawler.
Seams is a little preemptive for Pacific Star to announce the possible purchase of the (Radio Italia) frequencies of: 1539kHz (Syd), 1593 (Melb) & 90.7 FM (Darwin) if the transaction is only in negotiation stages atm; as I read from the ASX release.
Reading further from the ASX release it appears the transaction will occur if the debt funding is secured by end of June & terms agreed to, so transaction can be finalised by July 1st. Guessing that Pacific Star must be fairly confident that transaction will occur.
Wonder if there will be further Rete Italia radio TX asset/licence sell-offs further down the track?

The current location is in the south of Adelaide, another factory roof job, this time Southern Timber. It’s beyond O’Halloran Hill, so most long time Adeladians would say that’s out of town, the ever growing ‘satellite’ city of Noarlunga within the City of Onkaparinga is a large population base.
Draw the radii of the two sites, Regency Park and Lonsdale. Both sites are needed for coverage of the Adel metro area. They need to be brought closer if anything.
@ozbark good analysis, seems to be Craig’s way for this entire expansion process. All parties would want to be well informed as to what is planned to be released to remove ramifications of the preemptive nature of announcements.
Not PNWs mistake, their release is correct. The mistake is in the Radio Info analysis - we should expect better from an industry site.

I’m not kidding! Have you seen what Crocmedia have done to SEN and 3MP since owning them? Six stations (2 AM and 4 DAB+) were broadcasting the exact same program this morning. Whatever ACE does it’s got to be an improvement! With previous ownership at least there was a diversity of programming and hopefully there will be in the future.

Back in 1990 4BK vacated and 4RPH started. In 1991 in Perth, 6PM vacated and community station 6RPH started. Surely it wouldn’t be too hard to re-licence from community to commercial if the channel is available.
A condition of the metro AM to FM conversions in the early 1990s was that the AM stations had to give their AM transmission facilities to the government so that they could be used for the RPH stations and for ABC parliamentary broadcasts. The implementation departed from that slightly, eg. 1107 AM in Sydney went to SBS instead of the ABC, but that was the policy iirc.
It didn’t set a precedent.
