SEN (Company)

SEN could do to buy 3BT which is the former original Ballarat frequency vacated when 3BA went FM.

Camplins and the now deceased Kevin Blyton own it and originally acquired it to help their regional radio friends ensure no decent competition of formats.

‘We still have a lot of work to do’: SEN’s Craig Hutchison reveals plans for 2026

(Hutchison) revealed to Mumbrella that former Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley will join SEN in 2026. Another recent addition was the cricket signing of the summer, former English fast bowler Stuart Broad, who SEN shares with Seven.

As to growing the portfolio of sporting teams, Hutchison said: “I’m respectful that clubs require lots of energy from a lot of talented people. So we are not in a hurry to overburden our team with more, but there’s clearly opportunities.

“Some of those deals will find us because we’ve had a good run on one of them. We’ll keep an eye out for opportunities and we’re always prepared to take anyone’s phone call.”

SEN currently owns Super Netball team Melbourne Mavericks, and Bendigo Spirit and Perth Lynx in the WNBL.

The moment any government cracks down on betting advertising, he’s screwed.

Hutchy needs to get rid of those teams. Spend a lot more time with the Sydney station, they are failing harder than the Wests Tigers at the moment.

Even if those changes eventually happen, Sports Entertainment Group likely wouldn’t be affected. They could reasonably argue that wagering information and advertising are essential parts of RSN/Turf’s core operation. Without odds and markets, they can’t provide what they consider a ‘complete product,’ so the broadcast of that content is integral to the service, not an add-on.

Yes you do need the odds on racing radio, and they can stay provided all the appropriate supporting legislation is there, that’s fine.

But generally the odds shouldn’t be on the main SEN service in the main way they are now, someone will argue that and will get it barred. If commercial TV cops it, so will commercial radio.

So at least he’s safe in that regard.
