SEN (Company) (formerly Crocmedia)

Because he founded Crocmedia, which has now changed its name to Sports Entertainment Network. At the time of the merger, despite PSN technically acquiring Crocmedia shares, it was effectively SEN becoming part of the existing Crocmedia empire. Craig has contributed to everything apart from name and Melbourne licences.

Crocmedia actually rebranded as Sports Entertainment Network a little while ago. So he’s ‘technically’ the founder of the Sports Entertainment Network company, which was called Crocmedia.

Interestingly that is the name of the company and is written in full on the corporate logo, while the actual stations are officially just SEN.

Including IMO ruining a good little niche Melbourne radio company and now doing the same in Sydney (replacing 2CH with SEN etc.).

Thursday 20 May -
Injured Melbourne AFL player Adam Tomlinson was guest co-host on Sportsday Victoria alongside Gerard Healy and Sam McClure. Tomlinson is sidelined for the rest of the 2021 season after tearing his ACL in the Demons’ win over North Melbourne two weeks ago, and has undergone surgery.

Conflict of interest much?

For some years News Ltd owned the Melbourne Storm, had majority ownership of the Brisbane Broncos (and still do), and owned 50% of the NRL. It seemed to work.

Was effectively confirmed with Craig’s comments on Monday’s Footy Classified.

Surely if that happens, Sports Entertainment Group would have to sell its share in Melbourne United?

Can’t see how they would be able to own shares in two teams simultaneously and avoid any conflict-of-interest issues

What conflict of interest? Whose governance are you referring to? I’m not familiar with the structure of private ownership in the NBL so excuse my ignorance.

Refer to @littlegezzybear’s post above. Not a situation without precedence.

Appears SEN 1629 is testing in Hobart…Running a Tasmanian branded stream with some local advertising and a local weather updates…

Could use a bit more power…The AM struggles in the northern suburbs…

You’d hope they are trying to make a deal work to get on DAB down there.

The sale of the Wildcats to SEG will proceed. Craig Hutchison also stood down as co-chairman from recently crowned NBL champions Melbourne United ahead of the acquisition, but said the business has proposed to dilute or divest its stake in Melbourne United.

Craig Hutchison’s Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) has launched another bid to take over battling radio station RSN, with the horse racing station’s board weighing up multiple options for the future of the station.

Shareholders of the Melbourne-dedicated RSN, which include the three metropolitan racing clubs, Harness Racing Victoria, Greyhound Racing Victoria, and Country Racing Victoria, have met with the board and have tasked it with investigating opportunities to sell or overhaul the station, which has been the subject of countless reviews and rejuvenations over the past decade.

However, Racing Victoria is also in the process of launching its own integrated media business (IMB) - which emcompasses free-to-air television station and digital platform Racing.com - which offers the chance for RSN to align with the IMB.

While RSN does not sit under the IMB as it is co-owned by the harness and greyhound codes, there is a perceived opportunity for the businesses to improve efficiencies by sharing media talent, cross-promote each other, and ultimately share costs.

For example, Michael Felgate, who hosts RSN’s 8.30am racing affairs show, could also work on Racing.com’s coverage, while RSN could tap into Racing.com’s form analysts. Racing.com is also operating at a net loss, but it too is seen as a driver of wagering.

Hopefully it could see 3BT and 3SR (I think) be able to at least become SEN stations, rather than being commercial stations carrying narrowcast racing.

SEN should move to 927 if they get the chance.

They are commercial licences so would be able to, though no doubt the local content quota will come into effect as they would no longer fit the bill of being ‘racing’ stations.

Bare in mind too that RSN doesn’t own 3BT - Ballarat Sports Radio Pty Ltd is registered to Jindabyne (ie. the Blytons).

Luckily SEN Nine Twenty Seven sounds good.
