Optus would have needed a FTA partner (or a mechanism to have some of it shown free)

Not interested in giving 7 a bargain deal again

2002 was shared with Channel 9 and of course 2018 was with Optus Sport

Good to read that SBS has secured the 2026 World Cup. Especially that there will be more matches than usual - with more teams competing.

or Optus Sport or Stan/Nine. I’m sure they would have bidded big for it!

Let’s hope SBS On Demand has a “cut to the chase” option to go straight to the kickoff on replayed matches so we won’t have to put up with 30 minutes of waffle (and ads) before the game!

I think SBS will have to sell a lot of advertising packages to recoup the higher cost to the rights due to a big increase in matches.

Where would we have been without the wonderful SBS world game commitment

Schedule should be released by end of the year

Is this exclusive? Or shared with one of the subscriber channels.

Don’t think it’s exclusive, but don’t know where else it would be (other than betting platforms). They’re only advertising it as “Live and Free” rather than “Exclusive, Live and Free” like they are for the actual WC or the TDF.
