SBS - Programs and Schedules

The Big Fat Quiz Of Everything is different to The Big Fat Quiz of The Year. The Everything 2025 show is from January 2025. The Year one was just broadcast in the UK and will be available on 1 Jan on SBS.

SBS also recently ran three compilation Best Bit specials that covered the last 20 years of the shows.

Hard to distinguish with some of these Big Fat Quiz shows, since they essentially have the same guests on most of them.

The Best Bits Specials that aired recently rated dreadfully for SBS. I tuned into the first ep, and it sadly didnt make the cut.

But the Big Fat Quiz of the Year that airs on SBS on New Years Day for a number of years now is generally good.

The show is funny but I find the content is very British and difficult to connect with. I have no idea what the answers are for the majority of the questions asked.

The Anti-Soviet Fighters

Sunday, 8 February at 5.30pm

The Baltic forests. A quarter in Lithuania, a third in Latvia and almost half in Estonia. This is where, in the 20th century, a drama unfolded behind closed doors: the resistance of a handful of Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian partisans against the Soviet Union’s stranglehold on their territory at the end of the Second World War.

For ten years, from 1944 to 1953, the fight for freedom by those we call the “Brothers of the Forest” defied the Kremlin, claiming more than 50,000 victims. In the days of the USSR, they were portrayed as outlaws, bandits driven by villainous motives. But since the Baltic States regained their independence in 1991, monuments have been erected everywhere in their honor. These men and women have come to symbolise the price paid for the right to live free.

Who were these freedom fighters? What was their real life like in the forest? How did they fight, and how were they defeated? How did these men and women, placed by history between the Nazis and the Soviets, escape the general bloodshed of the 20th century?

Monday 9 February 10:35 PM (8 Parts)

The story of the biggest tax fraud in European history – and how two women fought to put an end to it. Pay a tax, get it refunded twice, and claim it’s legal: that’s a Cum-Ex deal. A young lawyer and his boss expand this scheme to private investors in Germany, developing a global network of banks, lawyers, and investors that steal billions from European citizens. In Denmark, tax officials Inger Brøgger and Niels Jensen watch helplessly as state funds vanish, with little support from bankers or politicians. When Niels faces financial struggles and personal pressures, he loses his moral compass and joins the scheme. In Germany, a District Attorney uncovers the massive fraud and faces fierce resistance from banks and politicians. Determined to prevent the usual outcome—where minor players are caught while the masterminds walk free—she fights tirelessly to bring those truly responsible to justice.

From the producers of Babylon Berlin and the BAFTA-awarded Millenium trilogy.

Bardot

Tuesday 17 February 8:35 PM

One of the most influential and controversial figures of modern European culture, Brigitte Bardot lived loudly and freely, refusing to be reshaped by public opinion. Before her death, she spoke openly and without filters about every chapter of her life.

This documentary captures her final and most personal testimony, including the only public apology she ever made, as she acknowledges regret and asks for forgiveness.

Blending unseen home archive, iconic film moments, and rare access to her private La Madrague estate, the film reveals a woman far more complex than her legend: politically outspoken, emotionally reflective and still grappling with the contradictions that defined her life.

A Spy Among Friends

Thursday 19 February 9:15 PM

Based on the New York Times best-selling book written by Ben Macintyre, the six-episode series dramatises the true story of Nicholas Elliott (Damian Lewis) and Kim Philby (Guy Pierce), two British spies and lifelong friends. Philby was the most notorious British defector and Soviet double agent in history. This is a story of intimate duplicity, of loyalty, trust and treachery. Philby’s deeply personal betrayal, uncovered at the height of the Cold War, resulted in the gutting of British and American Intelligence.

Episode One:

In the wake of Kim Philby’s escape to Moscow, his closest friend in Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service ( also known as M.I.6.), Nicholas Elliott, is under investigation by Mrs. Lily Thomas from the Security Service (M.I.5): Did he facilitate Philby’s escape because he’s also a traitor working for the Russians, or is it just that his judgement was clouded at a critical moment by their twenty-three year friendship? Or maybe, just maybe, he in fact had the last laugh having manipulated Philby to run to the bosom of the KGB for foreign intelligence purposes.

Saturday 21 February 7:30 PM

Neil and Martin’s Bon Voyage sees Neil Morrissey take his dear friend Martin Clunes on a bespoke road trip through southern France (a place Neil now calls his second home) to celebrate 40 years of friendship. Neil and Martin, who catapulted to fame together starring in 90s television sitcom Men Behaving Badly, don’t see each other nearly as much as they would like to these days. So Neil’s cooked up a smart idea to change all that, inviting his friend to join him on an adventure through some of southern France’s most beautiful regions.

Episode One:

The boys reunite at Neil’s French home in the south of France, before heading to one of France’s deepest wine cellars along the Dordogne River and on to the vineyards of Bordeaux, ending their day atop Europe’s largest sand dune.
