Homebodies

Saturday 28 March 8.25 PM

Starring Claudia Karvan, Luke Wiltshire, Jazi Dall and Roxie Mohebbi. When trans man Darcy reluctantly returns to his regional hometown Torwoo to care for his estranged mother Nora, he’s shocked to discover that she has secretly been living with Dee, the ghost of his pre-transition self – who manifested two years earlier.

Nora hopes Darcy’s arrival might help them all move forward. Trapped in the house with her mum, Dee is a powder keg of teen emotions, which manifest in flickering lights and electrical short circuits. However, Darcy and Dee clash, competing for their mother’s attention. On the outer, feeling replaced, Darcy accuses Nora of manifesting Dee. Through a misguided exorcism, Darcy unwittingly unlocks Dee’s ability to leave the property, and she flees to town. He is horrified when he tracks her down and discovers that she can now be seen by others.

This ghost is becoming more and more real, but he is slowly losing his own reflection. Is Darcy at risk of fading altogether?

The Hostage’s Story

Saturday 28 March 9.25 PM

With exclusive access to Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe and Richard Ratcliffe, as well as other former hostages, Anoosheh Ashoori, Kylie Moore-Gilbert, Jason Rezaian The Hostages’ Story offers a rare, inside look at the toll of being used as leverage in political negotiations between states. In the aftermath of their releases, the film explores the slow, painful process of rebuilding lives while also asking urgent questions: what does justice look like for victims of state hostage-taking, and how can future cases be prevented?

The film lays bare how authoritarian regimes are increasingly using foreign nationals as geopolitical bargaining chips. Through the lens of Nazanin’s six-year imprisonment in Iran, it examines the wider pattern of wrongful detention, the international failure to prevent it, and the hidden costs to families, diplomacy, and justice.

Australia’s Greek Cafes & Milk Bars

Monday 20 April 7:30 PM

Before the golden arches, before the coffee chains, before Australia embraced the world on a plate, there was the Greek café and milk bar.

These shops were scattered across every suburb and country town and didn’t just serve milkshakes and mixed grills. They revolutionised what Australians ate, where they gathered and how they understood community.

Australia’s Greek Cafés & Milk Bars tells the remarkable story of migrants who left Greece to escape war and poverty in search of a better life, arriving in Australia with little more than determination and a willingness to work all hours. They joined the gold rushes of Victoria, NSW and Western Australia. Some with an entrepreneurial eye saw a gap in the food business. With an added dollop of modern American culture – Hollywood and hamburgers - in just a few years, thousands of cafés and milk bars had popped up across the nation becoming “a curious symbol of the Australian country town.”

Chernobyl: Inside The Meltdown

The Chernobyl disaster is the worst nuclear accident in history, releasing 400 times more radiation into the atmosphere than the Hiroshima bomb. In the lead-up to the 40th anniversary of this catastrophic event, this series tells the full story – from reactor meltdown – to the present-day war in Ukraine, that turned a nuclear exclusion zone into a war zone.

Episode One: Inferno at 7:35pm

Survivors recount the terrifying first 24-hours of the worst nuclear accident in history. After a reactor explodes during a safety test at a power plant in Ukraine, firefighters rush to the scene, unaware of the lethal levels of radiation. Soviet authorities try to cover up the disaster as a cloud of radiation begins to circle the world.

Episode Two: Cover-Up at 8:30pm

Two days after the explosion, the world wakes up to a terrifying global disaster. At the power plant, helicopter pilots try to put out a fire in the reactor core, braving plumes of highly radioactive smoke. Soviet authorities eventually begin to evacuate 50,000 people from the local area, while still trying to conceal the scale of the accident.
