IMO Charlie Pickering has been a really good selection as host over the past number of years. He’s really made the ABC his own since departing 10 and The Project.

The whole event attracts negative attention because its bankrolled by City of Sydney Council & the NSW Government and people think there are better uses for the money. The impacts of the fireworks themselves are starting to become a bigger thing and they’re incrementally becoming socially unacceptable.

The “Midnight Fireworks” was the number one program, with the “Post Fireworks” segment that followed was in second place. Going by the guides, they were 10 minutes long. Which means they won’t be at the end of year tallies as oztam says shows (aka “segments” for the ratings) need to be 15 minutes long. Oops…

Weekend Today didn’t air at its usual time in Brisbane and Adelaide - was live - which would have impacted its numbers.
