Saturday’s Olympic coverage put in another dominant performance with 1.85 million watching the Night session on Nine and 9Gem while viewers were prepared to stay up later on the weekend with the Late session averaging over 1 million on the two channels.

Earlier Today in Paris was at 831k, its highest rating of the games so far while Nine News was 540k ahead of Seven’s 6pm bulletin.

Over on Seven, Seven News recorded its lowest national rating of the year. Saturday AFL, however, did well to average 531k though Seven’s alternative market offerings missed the top 30. Weekend Sunrise was down on its usual Saturday with its lowest in-survey result since March.

ABC’s Sister Boniface Mysteries was just under 300k as the only scripted title in the top 30 while ABC News had its lowest 7pm result of the year. 10’s prime time was MIA with 10 News at 5pm ranking 21st.

A sea of Nine yesterday :fire:

If we recognise ~500k during reality shows as equivalent to the old ‘magic million’ (broadcast metro)… Then Nine should be over the moon!

Even higher if those AFL clashes wasn’t on last night. Saturdays are usually the lowest TV night and no 9Go! overflow to add with no NRL. But still impressive, high 1m total for early evening, while late of particular note as TVCynic mentioned.

Today, extraordinary, perfect timing with the gold rush. And a mammoth victory for Nine News, lead-in must’ve been popular yesterday, that timeslot looked well up too, possibly a weekend to thank for that.

Viewership might’ve peaked with the gold medal last night mid-evening for the Aussie doubles.

AUSTRALIA BREAKS NEW GROUND, WINNING MEDALS IN WINDSURFING & TENNIS DOUBLES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN DECADES

The 9Network’s Saturday broadcast of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 (up until 2.00am Sunday AEST) secured a National Total TV Reach of 9.576 million across Channel 9, 9Gem and 9Now.

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Day 8 Night Session (19:00-21:00) was Australia’s No.1 program with Total People and all key demographics. It registered a National Total TV Reach of 4.215 million, a Total TV National Audience of 1.636 million and a BVOD audience of 199,000. In this session, Australian Athletics made an impression, as three-time Olympian Kurtis Marschall advanced to the final in the Men’s Pole Vault, and Abbey Caldwell triumphed in the Women’s 800m Repechages to secure her spot in the final.

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Day 8 Night Session 2 (21:00-22:30) was Australia’s No.2 program with Total People and all key demographics. The broadcast, showcasing Aussie doubles duo Matt Ebden and John Peers delivering one of the most remarkable comebacks in Olympic tennis to win gold for Australia after a 28-year wait, secured a National Total TV Reach of 3.783 million, a Total TV National Audience of 1.512 million and a BVOD audience of 196,000. Audiences were also treated to the Hockeyroos winning their final Pool B matchup against Spain 3-1.

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Day 8 Afternoon (15:00-18:59) dominated its timeslot across Australia with Total People and all key demographics. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 3.546 million, a Total TV National Audience of 813,000 and a BVOD audience of 87,000.

Olympic Games Paris 2024 Day 8 Late (22:30-24:00) dominated its timeslot across Australia with Total People and all key demographics. It achieved a National Total TV Reach of 2.699 million, a Total TV National Audience of 875,000 and a BVOD audience of 122,000. Viewers celebrated Men’s Windsurfer Grae Morris, who secured silver - Australia’s first medal in windsurfing in 32 years. They also cheered as the Men’s Water Polo team clinched a thrilling 9-8 victory over Hungary in the preliminary round.

9News was Australia’s No.1 bulletin of the night with all key demos and Total People. The combined national bulletins achieved a National Total TV Reach of 2.676 million, a Total TV National Audience of 1.412 million and a BVOD audience of 137,000.

The 9Network was the No.1 network across the 5 City Metro with Total People and all key demographics, securing huge shares of 58.1% with People 25-54, 63.4% with People 16-39 and 51.9% with Total People.

9Now was the No. 1 CFTA BVOD platform across Australia with Total People and all key demographics, with massive shares of 85.6% with People 25-54, 87.3% with People 16-39 and 83.8% with Total People.

Over 87% of 16-39 year old viewers tuning-in to 7Plus, 9Now and 10Play for at least 30sec across Australia yesterday chose Nine’s platform.
There was probably literally only a handful, overall, peoplemeters locked on 7Plus and 10Play combined!
That’s gigantic stuff.

5 cities

Big win for Nine News with low numbers for Seven across the board especially. Seven won Adelaide and Perth by small margins but when BVOD were added Nine was ahead in both. Today in Paris was ahead in all markets.

The Olympics was also ahead of AFL in all 5 markets.

A day to remember for Nine News and Today!

But AFL got really close in Melbourne and Adelaide, looks like especially mid-evening. While the Olympics
did some 14 times over what the Sydney Swans rated :flushed:

Seven News in Adelaide and Perth managed to stay ahead with just 2000 viewers (Adelaide), and 1000 viewers (Perth) in front of Nine.

That’s a massive feat to Nine Perth given Seven’s long reining dominance (although obviously because of the Olympics). Such an interesting year to see the shift in numbers so far.

I don’t think we really need these tags now, given VOZ, everything is meant to be total. We have breakdowns here purely for Olympics interest. Bvod is adding so much to TV these days and is the only way many now watch. A win in the new system/metrics, is a win.
