Seven won a low-rating Saturday despite dropping 3 share points from the previous week. Those viewers mostly went to ABC that was up two from last week’s Saturday low. SBS also got a boost while Nine and 10 were roughly the same.

Seven News won at 6pm but Nine posted its highest rating for a Saturday bulletin since the Australian Open including a big win in Melbourne. With the Perth AFL coverage not counted in the total, Saturday Night Football was down almost 140k on the previous week to a season low of 216,000.

Nine lost ground on the main channel with A Current Affair down slightly and third instalment of Harry Potter movie franchise just making the top 20 with 147,000 down from the first two movies. Earlier, Getaway made the top five and was the highest rated entertainment show of the night, the first time over 300k this year.

For ABC, a repeat of last year’s Royal Variety Performance did much better than last week’s movie.

Meanwhile The Dog House Australia crept up the rankings to its best result on a Saturday this year. Earlier, 10 News was up 10k.

Weekend Sunrise had another big win at breakfast with Weekend Today on a four-week low for a Saturday.

Fox League and Fox Footy games were down on recent result for Foxtel.

Another ratings day, another day when News totally dominates the overnight figures.

12 of the Top 20 shows are news shows.

No, nothing to see here.

I would think the Perth audience would be quite low, given West Coast (which had been plagued by injuries) lost to Carlton by 108 points.

The viewer numbers have to be concerning to the networks - although when you phone in schedules like we’ve seen on Saturdays for a while then its little wonder the viewers have buggered off

Nothing to see, since Weekend Sunrise and Today split their shows into 3 segments (early, normal and late). These two shows made 5 entries into the top 20. Some nights, “Sports” makes a dozen entries into the top 20 too, with Pre Game, Pre Match, the game itself, Post Match etc making entries into the top 20 list.

Why dont Seven capitalise in having a “late news” after their highly rating AFL? Because there are other alternatives!

Were lots out and about last night (although freezing in Melbourne)? Everyone not happy with any FTA and switched off for streaming?

Surprising that Seven still did quite well, considering both AFL games were two of the worst you will ever see from the first minute (not a single bit of recovery from the losing team especially the Seven-produced one), Nine News was a lot closer & rare underperformance in Melbourne by Seven News, they didn’t own any timeslots after 7pm, 7flix low for a Saturday and no movies ranked.

Just shows how bad Nine did then after 7:30pm (they must be stuck airing HP under some onerous situation now), as well as not really much from ABC or 10, though both latters saw some positives as a result of the big two’s disappointments.

Foxtel also well off the pace for a Saturday.

This weekend and indeed week from tonight will be different, with the King’s Coronation events taking over a lot of programming
Thereafter some new shows launch :eyes:

These guys are making big grounds on consolidated (especially ABC).

Who wants to watch harry potter with all those ads when you can just stream it so much easier.

And I think its broad target demos have mostly moved on to streaming now, can’t see too many Over 55s eagerly awaiting and sitting down to their commercial broadcast runs these days

Not to mention Seven milked them for all they’re worth, possible viewer fatigue.

It will be interesting when 10 brings back a classic movie to Saturday in 2 weeks.

Maybe they could do news themed movies like Ron Burgundy  everyone wins then

If they still have the rights, re-running Indiana Jones (which did well for them over summer) could do well again in the lead-up to this year’s most anticipated theatrical release, Indiana Jones 5.

So how well did their other alternatives go, Yellow Sock?

Are we still going on about this? There is a good reason the thread the other day was locked.

On another note:

I wonder if Nine will stick it out with showing them on the main channel? Is there a contractual obligation at play?

It’s hard to imagine Nine would intentionally aim for what’s heading towards a 10% main channel share for the next 2 months, especially on a night that Seven often pull one of their largest shares of the week and a night that decides some weeks. We’re told regularly about how crucial a single share point (although YTD I think) for the advertising pie.

I wouldn’t imagine it’d be contracted to a main channel, I mean commercial FTA licencing and old movie re-runs in 2023, that just be foolish from Nine if true and would most likely have come in a wider package/agreement with Warners, as we’ve seen over the past year and a couple of premieres next week since Seven’s output lapsed.

I suggested last week it’s more likely that Nine locked away a program sponsor(s), as well as spot buyers, for the duration of that timeslot (HP marathon) and the rates were negotiated on a main channel basis and can’t back-track on that now without significant penalties (make goods/refund/legalities/‘burn bridges’ with a client). I mean, unless a client expresses disappointment on an ROI with its ratings, Nine have got their money, so probably not pulling their hair out, even though it’s looking bad on paper.
