Last time was 2019.

I thought this might happen, not surprising considering no Victorian teams, it’d have to have been a thriller.

I believe 2019 when Richmond thrashed GWS it was also below 1m in Melbourne. @TV.Cynic just beat me to it!

Huge numbers, as expected, for the AFL Grand Final. 4 million+ is huge.

The 1% Club did very well too. Although, Seven’s News in Melbourne did run overtime by 10-15 minutes, so their numbers might go slightly down later in the week.

The numbers pre-Final is impressive too. The Brunch got 486k (9-10.30am aest), Countdown got 504k (10.30-12pm), Pre-game Entertainment 1,370,000 (12-2pm?) and On the Ground with 2,982,000 (2-2.30?) going by the guides.

I think the “Post Match” must be 7mate, including Perth on main channel.

Also, the data really shows the core interest in the day, with averages leaping from about 400k total before 1:30pm, to well over 1 million after 1:30pm and close to 3m after 2pm. Makes Seven perhaps question their investment into the earlier pre shows and seriously consider a move to prime time.

There’s been streaming available for the Grand Final for a several years now

Not officially, on the app, only via a loophole in the contract on select connected TVs

It’s not like they are any great additional cost to produce, they are mainly just talking heads on a panel outside the stadium and highlight packages. It adds build-up and atmosphere to the day even if the ratings aren’t huge. Also remember they are competing with Fox Footy who do a similar pre-match show.

Saturday’s GF average numbers are a bit hard to believe imo considering the game was a blowout. As you can see 2 years ago the Swans game had a much lower average as it was another blowout. But somehow this Lions/Swans game another blowout rated almost the same as the close game last year. Hard to believe.

The reach seems about correct but the average seems like the numbers have been fudged.

It’ll be because of bvod (streaming).

Seven never had the rights and only from about 2021 or 2022 found a loophole where 7Plus could do the Brownlow and Grand Final only (as Foxtel was forbidden but they still held exclusive digital AFL rights via Telstra) so through select connected TVs only you could watch, such as Apple TV, Samsung TV, Google TV, Play Station, etc.

Started adding extra hundreds of thousands, the first was unofficially 197k from memory (as this wasn’t reported through the old OzTAM system due to the rights situation but Seven provided it).

But as of this year, it’s official (early before 2025 season from the Brownlow), now 7Plus can wholly stream, including the platform/app proper, so mobile, chromecast and remaining connected TVs - where the rest of this year’s bvod AFL record would’ve come from.

Note Seven made a point of mentioning this in their release this morning “streaming”, as in wanted it known that it beat the previous Foxtel Now/Go/Kayo record as well.

Impressive result for Seven, considering Nine’s NRL Prelim (thought for sure they’d win), Melbourne did a lot of heavy lifting by the looks of it plus Adelaide and Perth with Seven News also 1% and the movie, flowing-on from the mammoth AFL GF audience.

Seven also managed 60%+ shares in Sydney and Brisbane during daytime for the GF. Adding prime time they remained on top, Brisbane held over 50%.

Just imagine the numbers if the game had been close, could’ve been setting new records beyond AFL bvod and we may never know, could be a long time before Sydney v Brisbane again…

If you can, could you Please show the 5 City Breakdown for the 6pm News.??

Cheers, Thank You!!

If it hasn’t been posted by now then I doubt you’ll get the figures.
Friday/Saturday news numbers are hard to come by now.

The “Live VPM” ratings were released this morning.

They very closely match the overnight BVOD ratings except for the Post Match Presentations that suggests that the final number for that segment of the coverage will be adjusted lower.
