The Australian Open Women’s final helped deliver Nine the Saturday night ratings though it was closer than some years as Seven’s coverage of the day-night test also did well. Nine’s +36% share was its best Saturday result in three months while Seven’s 32% share was its best Saturday of the year. That saw ABC’s share down by three, 10 by one and SBS by three.

The straight sets result in the Women’s Final attracted 878k for the top ranked program of the night. That compared to 762k in 2023. Though no match for the Ash Barty 2022 final it was also on par with 2021 (851k) and 2020 (890k) finals both of which also delivered 36% share results.

The Presentations that followed averaged 474k while 2023 had 677k. The Men’s Doubles later saw 276k tune in. 370k watched the match in 2023.

The third session of the second test made the top five for Seven while the afternoon also did well with 469k for session two and 379k for session one.

In a crowed night, Darby and Joan and then Vera stood out on ABC as the top scripted programs. They help up well against the competition only losing 30-40k from the previous week.

Seven News had a 100k win at 6pm with some close results on the east coast.

Weekend Today had one of its best Saturday results just 10k behind Weekend Sunrise.

The tennis did well for most of the night but the cricket was also competitive.

The Women’s Final for the Australian Opened helped Nine win the night.

Seven’s Cricket was competitive too (it does look like people switched over to the tennis during the dinner break, but then returned).

This is the last time we’ll get to see the shares. 7Mate did well, thanks to the Cricket (when the news was on…). 7Two and 10Peach tied for second. Nickelodeon still not doing any wonders.

Perhaps for the last time, ABC Kids had a few entries in the multi-channel list. Especially their AM shows. 10 Peach did great thanks to The Big Bang Theory. Movies The Divergent Serries (9GO) and The Last Samurai (9Gem) made appearances

Nice. Not often we see the rankings for outside the top 20 on a Saturday night.

Bondi Rescue at 6pm on 10 struggled. But 99.9% of shows struggle on 10 in that 6pm slot. Slight improvement at 6.30pm with Jamie Oliver.

I think Nine have done themselves a disservice here, the match finished around 9pm, with the Presentations etc taking much of that next hour.

Another nice win for Nine last night but I dont think it is going to be all smooth sailing for them.

I actually predict that MAFS will probably record the lowest figures in 5 years for its premier show on Monday.

If I’m wrong, I wont comment for the rest of the year.

It’s kind of a lose lose situation for us. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Given the way the figures are going to be reported now, this is an intriguing take.

Yes we may to need to set out some criteria on how we are going to measure this

from my limited understanding of the new ratings platform it will be nigh on impossible to make any comparison of shows as now versus then.

From tomorrow we won’t not be able to compare year on year.

Eyes will be on all of Seven, Nine and 10 in equal anticipation I’d think, for the first time in a long time.

As Nine are expected (as usual and previously Seven with MKR & DWTS, Desperate Housewives, Lost, Prison Break, etc) to bolt out of the gates thanks to the Aus Open with Married among other shows mostly the following week when survey starts but most focus will be on Tipping Point Au’s proper launch as well as Nine News.

As for Seven, can Aus Idol be competitive against Married (it held up ok and certainly vs some other shows later in the year but was still no match for Nine’s) and what about Chase and Seven News now.

And 10, well another new launch too, after Gladiator’s (which was a disappointment and definitely the wrong time to do it) in DoND and The Project, as well as the main Q1 show.

It’s going to be fascinating stuff.

I can picture it already:
“1.27 million Australians tuned into the first minute of 10 and 10play’s new smash hit Deal or No Deal”. (Actual 5 city metro average: 189 k)

Wait? I thought the new VOZ media reports was going to be a new “total reach” (every viewer who watches at least 1min on broadcast or bvod nationally) and “total audience” (average viewers broadcast plus bvod metro plus regional).

But is there also going to be a “peak minute” report too?

The biggest miss of the new format if I understand correctly is we won’t get a metro city by city breakdown. We will definitely be missing lots of information as to whether a show is rating in the two biggest advertising markets.
