ABC received a different audience to its usual Saturday night offerings with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Broadcast. The telecast ranked fifth overall and ranked near the top of all key demos with a metro audience of 380,000. That is the highest ever rating for the event and compares to 266,000 in 2022, 218,000/184,000 in 2021 and 275,000 in 2020.

That helped ABC to its highest overnight share of the year as well as the equal highest rated main channel along with Nine’s. Nine’s share was up to its best Saturday in four weeks while Seven was steady. After getting a boost from last week’s NCIS crossover, 10 dropped back again this week to its lowest Saturday share in four weeks and the main channel raking below SBS and 9Go!. SBS was also impacted with its lowest Saturday share in four weeks just missing double figures.

Not much change was seen at the top of the rankings with news and A Current Affair on par with recent Saturday numbers though Border Patrol did slightly better for Seven.

Space Invaders got a small lift for Nine and hit a season high while Grease that followed just made the top 10.

Million Pound Pawn again misfired and is out of next week’s line-up while Seven’s movie just made the top 20.

At breakfast, Today was closer than usual to Sunrise with its highest Saturday audience of the year so far.

Pay TV numbers not received yet.

A big night for the ABC, thanks to the Mardi Gras. 380,000 is quite impressive for its 3 hour run. It would have been nice to see Rage (that followed) to crack the top 20 too, but i assume it was coded for the whole portion from 10.35pm until 2am…

Seven’s Million Pound Pawn flopped.

9Gem’s Super Rugby Pacific (Round 1) made the Top 20 in the Multi-list, which is good to see.

Great number for Mardi Gras… especially over a 3 hour telecast.

It is very relevant because even you Lance have run out of excuses for Ten’s poor performance.

Good to see Grease rate in the top 10 on Nine.

What you seem to be not understanding is that Saturday nights are low rating nights for everyone, and 10 gets hit worse in particular due to their target audience skewing younger, as they are more likely to be out of the house. It isn’t a new phenomenon, and it won’t change any time soon.

On the positive, that 5.1% figure is up from 4.4% on the equivalent night last year, which follows the prevailing trend since 10 moved the A-League off the main channel for this season.

I see. We better tell all those exeutives who left a couple of weeks ago that they should come back because based on last night’s performance, the ratings are actually heading in the right direction.

Nine with Grease and Terminator/BTTF on 9Go was a hit for fans

Again with the sarcasm as soon as anyone makes a legitimate counterpoint.

The executives were made redundant, they didn’t leave on their own accord. Paramount are trying to pivot 10 towards a wildly different direction than they are currently set up for, which means the structure of operations has to change and people, unfortunately, end up being made redundant. Ratings are only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to operating a media business like 10.

Yes it’s bad, we know it, they know it. It’s been that way for years well before the current ownership/management. This is not a new thing. So what would you like us to do about it, seeing as you seem to lecture us like we have some influence over it.

Are you going to persist with this shit every Sunday?

Take this as a warning - if you continue to post what appears to be variations of your classic hits, your ability to post without moderator approval will be revoked

BTTF massive for GO! again, it just rates each and every time it’s on TV.

I thought Nine might have lost it, when Universal content went to seven, ie Love Actually.

As I’ve said before, if Ten increase their numbers (which i hope they do), I will be the first the first to congratulate them.

But it seems a bit strange that noone is allowed to point out these exceptionally low figures especially because there has been so much public turmoil at the station and an exodus of stars who appear to be deserting the sinking ship

You raise a good point but i have to disagree ratings are only a “piece of the puzzle” because Ten’s problems are all about their ratings.

Their main channel was beaten by Nine’s digital channel last night

Except that’s not true, you can’t regurgitate the same banal talking points that add very little to the discussion every single time you post about it.

As has been pointed out to you on many occasions now (including in this post) - some of these figures Ten are posting aren’t exactly new extremes, they’re basically Ten’s standard ratings.

Yes but it is more relevant now than ever because there hasn’t been this much drama at the station for years and it is clearly a make or break time for them

Anyway, lets see what happens
