They could do a deal to be on any commercial TV mux, but in all honesty, given NewsHax’s reputation, do you really want to risk breaching the rules if they do something stupid on the frequency/mux that you’re responsible for?
If TDT is included in the SCA7 sale, they would own 50% of TDT…so they would be the responsible broadcaster anyway.
Would you kill the golden goose that is the current SCA7 or use the free space on TDT’s mux to TX your news station?
Well it’s too late for them. I reckon the Seven Network will be very angry about this decision. Seven would’ve retained the local Tassie news. But ADH wants to axe it I assume. So Seven (O&Os) are essentially really only covering Mainland Australia now.
Expect Tasmania to lose its local news. Tasmania may also start receiving the Melbourne channels full-time now and they may lose Channel 10.
That escalated quickly
Isn’t Tasmania subject to the same rules as the other aggregated markets though? ADH can’t drop local news.
They shouldn’t drop 10 either, but that’s something else. altogether.
Extremely doubt they’d axe the local news. They are by far the #1 news service in Tasmania.
Given that there are sports that are on the list that end up behind paywalls anyway, I doubt there is a requirement that it must be broadcast on FTA in all regions
And by a long shot as well - would bring in a fair bit of revenue.
Having the AFL rights also helps.
Well they can reduce it to 2 minute noddle updates, but I would imagine given their ratings the operations pays for itself.
Hmmm…interesting. Did they use that when they closed down Ten Mildura?
They’d be stupid to do that. And you can’t just say “but WIIIIIIIIIIN does local news” as excuse.
Just read it in a teenages voice and you’ll get the effect.
I honestly can’t remember, but given the only sports that 10 actually broadcasts that are on the list are Matilda’s and Socceroo’s qualifying matches for the world cup + the Australian Grand Prix and the MotorGP, and those haven’t popped up on other local stations (that we know off anyway).
Exactly - like I said, the existing setup with their ratings probably means it pays itself while possibly generating some profit.
I read it in this guy’s voice:
I’m still a little confused why ADH want this license?
While we’re at it, we should pay our respects to something that has been running on SCA (and previously GTS/BKN) Spencer Gulf for many years. Goodbye TV Classifieds. Here’s the most recent instalment as a tribute.
Pour a Forty out for the classiest…
They were still running?
Yes
Well I’ll be buggered. I thought that disappeared years ago.
Will the sale of SCA’s Seven affiliates and other stations mean that Seven will allow NewsMax as a sub-channel? Seven would not let SCA carry Sky News Regional on its SCA-owned affiliates.
Does this sale represent a trigger event to more (albeit slight) local news requirements.
Probably
