Just because a civilisation has developed a different way of pronunciation to the original, does not make it wrong. It is just that is how it has developed as certain languages and certain sounds and letters. There will be differences wherever you go in this world.
The whole Chicken Kiev-Kyiv thing is absolutely nothing to do with wokeness, it’s about providing moral support to the Ukrainians in their fight (and given the West is pretty much ‘de facto’ at war with Russia too with the sanctions and equipment support). It’s no different to WW1 when you had German sausage renamed ‘Belgian sausage’ and the town of Germanton being renamed Holbrook.
On another note, to me it seems that Vladimir Putin has one dubious honour, that is the honour of being the most despised foreign leader within Australia since at least Saddam Hussein. Haven’t met a single person with even a diplomatic word of support for what he is doing, and had a few people mention casually that they would love to see him ‘moved on’ from his role by whatever means necessary.
Even Trump was never as despised as Putin is now
Not surprising when the framing of this in the news everywhere is it is an invasion. What else are people, who have no clue on regional politics, particularly those under perhaps 40, going to say? Of course they will say he is bad on seeing various bombings. You cannot expect any other response.
I do find it a bit odd that they haven’t captured significant parts of it by now. It is a big country, but they should have large slabs of it by now if it was just a simple invasion. Ukraine aren’t exactly well-resourced.
Yesterday Foreign Minister Marise Payne announced further sanctions against a further 67 Russians.
This could literally be the best chance Ukraine is looking for to gain the upper hand and annihilate the Russians from their country. The best way for Putin’s regime to be destroyed is if they turned against each other which is essentially what is happening now. Zelensky must be doing cartwheels at the prospect of Russian military forces fighting each other to their own demise (and possibly, Belarus’ as well).
It’s about time that grog Putin and his pansy Lukashenko get taken down a peg for their absolutely ruthless and illegal stunt to destroy Ukraine.
A very interesting situation unfolding at a pretty rapid pace.
Prigozhin seems to be a pretty sketchy fellow but at this point could very well be the lesser of two evils. If he manages to take control of Russia and Belarus and is able to oust Putin and his sidekick Lukashenko from power, he has opened the door for a potential cessation of hostilities with Ukraine (with his statements today denouncing the invasion), which would be a good outcome for the wider world.
Watching two Russian egos having a go at each other is depressing yet also satisfying at the same time considering Putin’s absolute insolence and inconsideration for the past year in Ukraine.
That fizzles out very quickly.
Will Prigozhin now fall to Russian Window Cancer?
The more I reflect on this situation, the more I think Lukashenko has pulled off a masterstroke.
His main weakness prior to now was his dependency on Putin, by taking on the Wagner mercenaries and effectively protecting Prigozhin from certain prosecution, he’s now got himself a very influential ally to bolster his own position and protect himself from potential threats (and for once he’s in the position of having Putin owe him a favour instead of the other way around).
It’s not a good outcome for freedom and democracy though as all three of these guys are tyrants who have a long track record of human rights abuses.
I’m sure the Gremlin will call it an ‘accident’.
An accidental missile.
Geez.
It was definitely ‘accidental’ that the plane suddenly plunged from the sky and it was definitely ‘accidental’ that it happened to have Putin’s public enemy No.1 onboard.
