Idiots. They forfeit
SANZAAR confirmed this morning that the Argentina-Australia match on Saturday would still go ahead, without the six Pumas players. The organisation said:
SANZAAR is very disappointed that such a breach has occurred given the clear rules that are in place to ensure the health and safety of all players and staff, and compliance with all relevant health orders.
However, crowd capacity at Cbus Super Stadium will be capped at 75% due to Gold Coast returning to stage 2 of Queensland’s COVID roadmap at 4pm today for two weeks.
At this morning’s Queensland Government COVID press conference, Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said the eight people tried to come back in without the appropriate authorisations and approvals, so they were refused entry at the border. Gollschewski said they would not be returning to Gold Coast until they have the correct permissions to do so.
Should’ve played the whole tournament in Perth hosted Bledisloe III and NZ and Aus were in Perth last month
Language barrier issues may have played a part.
I read that the WA govt wouldn’t allow RSA and ARG to quarantine in Perth
It seems Queensland has hosted this rather successfully - the Argentina issue isn’t really their fault.
Adding to Queensland’s success if they’ve been able to move the tests around the state - Townsville/Brisbane/Gold Coast have hosted weekends. WA doesn’t have the same ability.
The Wallabies won the fourth match in a row, beating a depleted Argentina side 32-17 in the final round of the Rugby Championship on the Gold Coast yesterday. The Wallabies led 32-3 at one stage before the Pumas scored two entries in the last 20 minutes.
Later, South Africa edged out New Zealand 32-29 thanks to a penalty goal by substitute Elton Jantjies after the final siren, giving the All Blacks their first loss of the tournament.
World Rugby has named Australia as its “preferred candidate” to host the 2027 Rugby World Cup. Rugby Australia will now work in an exclusive partnership with World Rugby to further develop the tournament model, ahead of a final World Rugby council vote in May next year.
WR also announced England as its “preferred candidate” to host the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup (NZ will host the tournament in October next year) while USA, which was competing with Australia for the 2027 RWC, will enter into exclusive targeted dialogue for the 2031 tournament.
UPDATE 29/3:
World Rugby also announced that England would host the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2025, while USA got the 2031 men’s World Cup and 2033 women’s World Cup.
It will be the first time the Rugby World Cup is held in North America.
Glad that Australia will be hosting tbe 2027 Men’s and 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cups.
Will the USA know the rules.of Union in time for the 2031 and 2033 World Cups? Lol.
I am sure there will be a huge promotion and education campaign between now and 2031, much like before the US hosted the 1994 FIFA World Cup when many Americans had no idea about soccer.
Ireland beat New Zealand 32-22 in the third and final test in Wellington tonight to win the series 2-1. It’s the first time in 28 years that the All Blacks lost a series at home, and also the first time Ireland won a rugby test series in NZ.
Later at the SCG, England came from behind to defeat Australia 21-17 in the third test to win the series 2-1.
That Wallabies loss hurts! All those missed scoring opportunities come back to bite us.
